 Post subject: IT RIDES BUT FLATSIDE MIKUNIS?

I finally got my wiring sorted and a spark that could ignite world war 3 :shock: and then its better than sex :dunno: as it fires up and that sweet sweet sound as it flows through those pipes, so then a test ride then a few more tweeks and then alonger ride oh what fun as you knock up a 200klms on a nice summers day. Any way thanks to all the replies of help through this top forum. I still have carb issuses as it tends to hold its revs up to 3000rpm then it drops down to 1000rpm sometimes after long run. Have changed main jets from 230 to 190, I think I might have to go to 180 or 175. I have sync carbs and also lubed throttle cabbles as I thought they may be sticking but out on the road it runs pretty sweet, bogs just a little bit but I think that has a lot to do with the gearing as I have a 15 tooth front and a 40 tooth rear with 150- 80- 16 tyer so 1st and top are fairly tall which I hope to put right with a 39 tooth rear and a 150-70 16 tyer? I remember Wilbur who put me on to that awesome manifold that got rid of the old P trap that was on there said that he had flatside mikunis on aprevious Paso would remember which main,pilot and needle jets that he was running on these sidedraught carbs :phone: any way happy and safe ridding to you all its so good to be ridding again :thumbup:

are you sure the choke closes completely amd that the inlet rubber manifolds have no cracks meaning no air leaks ?

PS: 150/70-16 is not an option

A "floaty" idle is usually caused by a lean fueling condition not rich. Or as G has said, air leaks that cause the lean condition.

Cheak for air leaks.
Balance the carbs
New plugs
Find a gas analyzer that you can use to see where you are at idle. (just go the the loacal auto shop and see if they will stick the pipe in your exhast for a fiver)

Once you have your Main and Idle jet correctly selected,raising or lowering the needle will point you in the correct direction you need to go with the needle jet. With out getting your idle and main selected properly you will be wasting your time trying to get the mid range correct. I would suggest you read Sudco's excellent guide on jetting Mikuni carbs. As mentioned here hanging above idle is a lean indication of your mid/idle range jetting. It has nothing at all to do with the main jet.
