After many years of fiddling, twiddling, and doing everything I can to get the Weber to behave, I'm done. It's time to tackle the carb swap on my 88 Paso 750.

It's been suggested to me that using the carbs from a Monster 750 would be the easiest to source, and should be fairly straight-forward. Has anyone hear done this swap, and if so, what are the gotchas?

Thanks.

Joe

Take it easy. Well, then being more precice and exactly answering the titles question the answer would be a simple yes. But you wouldn`t be happy with that either.
Numerous guys post questions without ever noticing there is a search function so therefore the hint. No intention to be a smart ass.
The mikuni carb from a 750 Monster is the same as from a 600/750/900 Monster or SS just with a different jetting. Individual jetting will need to be determined so take whatever you find. The inlet manifilds should be from a 750cc Duc engine though as the ones from a 900 are minimally longer and the carb will stand slightly twisted.
Swapping carbs is a simple thing, airbox of course won`t fit anymore. Some info is in the FAQs on top of this forum.

Guess you didnt find the document on how to fix your weber either, but then if your tuning skills are as good as your search skill,Don't waste your time trying

I apologize. I was out of line.

"Use the search feature" as a response is one of my hot buttons.

No excuses, my bad. It won't happen again.

For particulars do a search for Mikuni carbs. Many riders here have swapped the weber for either Mikuni or Dellorto carbs.

Here is a link that will give you jet sizes for a 750.

http://www.postdiluvian.org/~mason/moto/jetting.html

Before I started my rebuild I was running Mikuni's and they run fine. Because of difference in intake ports the carbs not sit parallel in the frame but will fit fine.

As mentioned already, airbox will not fit. Custom filters are in order.

Check out higgy and romus's fantastic article about tuning the weber.
Even though the article is for the 900 it will give you enough info to get started in setting up the weber for the 750.

After my rebuild I am thinking about switching back from the Mikuni to the weber with some tuning based on the above weberology 101 article.

Cheers

Joe

I have done it on my 750 sport.
If you can, get 750 inlet tubes then everything will sit straight and look nicer and helps with what you intend to use for air filters.
Big thing is to check the emulsion tubes. On a big twin (asume you will use 2nd hand carbs off a Duc - mine were a pair off a 900 monster) as these wear because of the big pulses and then cause problems. Wear is a very slight oval hole almost undectable with the eye. I fitted new and if the carbs have done more than 10 000km i suggest fit new ones.
Fit 140 main jets and new gaskets and seals too. Ducati prices are a joke for these so if you can't get anywhere else go to a Yamaha agent as carbs were used on YZF 750s and TRX 850s - half the price.

Cheers
Clive

i'm using the stock sport headers and 2 to 1 into 2 collector but i have put on monster mufflers. but these are chopped and gutted. i'm turning it into a track day bike/F1 replica and only had it running in the garage so don't know how it perfoms at this stage. sounds good though!
