after reactivating my paso two years ago i changed to the half sysntetic oil from Castrol (Twin 20W50). Befor i used always mineral oil (Valvoline racing 20W50). I lately realized that the oil consumption is rather high. It's around a liter/ 1000 km, which seems to me to high. I doubt that going back to mineral oil would solve the problem. The paso has meanwhile 45'000 km. With 20'000km I've put a 780 kit, with which i always had a little oil consumtion, but no comparison whit the actual.
I'm thinking of overhauling the heads, which i think would solve the problem.
Has anyone a good address for this in Germany or switzerland (the onlyone I found so far is Käma in Germany)

I had my complete engine rebuild at a Ducati shop but the heads and other parts were forwarded to modification to this place which is only 6km from where I live

This place is really nice and increadibly clean. Baier told me he didn`t have a problem if I`d contact this other guy directly for things he didn`t do so past year I had him turn off and balance a couple of flywheels. The price was ok and the quality was great.

Personally I'd try a different oil first. Something in a 40 weight and other than Castrol.

20w50 is notorius for consumption issues. jm2c

The bike was more than ten years unused, and i did not preperate it. since two years it's running again. As I have a 780 Kit wit high compression pistons, it gets rather hot. Thats why I use a 20W50 and not a 20W40

is the 780cc kit the correct one for that engine ? I ask because mine is not.
It is originally for a Monster/SS and has shorter cooling fins. These cylinders have oil channels of which at least one is covered by the Paso engine case. If I remember well there were two points on the cylinder base of the engine case that needed to be modified to allow oil circulation and cooling.
Of course you didn`t have this problem if you got the right set for the Paso/Sport.

Does your Paso smoke ? In that case it could be the valve stem seals. Every Duc shop would be able to replace them and check the valves and guides. An engine repair/tuning shop may be cheaper though and they also have the equipment like some underpressure gauge with which they can check if the valves perfectly close if and if there are other leaks.

first thing I would do is get rid of anything Castrol 20w50. The weight of oil required has nothing to do with anything other than ambient temperature. Try a 0w40 first thing.

G is correct, it could very well be a simple seal replacement on the guides.
