The piston should run out from the cover if you keep on pumping the lever...
Maybe dirty doesn't let it move properly ant this is a good chanche to remove the piston and clean it carefulòly...
Have a look to the bearings too! They must turn like they 're on a greased pillow!

yes, If to take out the clutch cover and to keep on pumping the level - the piston is running out from the cover.
but the question is: how far the piston is coming out from the cover if the clutch cover is closed?
as I said i hold the piston with my hands (so the same situation like the cover is
closed), and got the clutch level hold and piston come out only some milimeters (as on the first picture)
is it enough?

Hi there.
Sorry for taking such a long time in answering regarding the piston kit, and I have no idea what the number it has, but it was straight forward in ordering one. I only had one tiny problem when I got mine the o-ring that was in the new kit was to small. So it was leaking after I had installed the damn thing. And for those of you who have tried bleeding the clutch you know what I mean, that you feel a bit disappointed when to discover this, to say the least.
Any way, as others have commented, the piston must move when you activate the clutch leaver, the brass pin should be able to remove from the bearing and the bearing mustn’t have any slack.
Regards Klaus

Hi

On my paso clutch, the o-ring has an outer diameter of 26 mm and its ring is 3,5 mm.

My clutch story  viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1327

great, thanks nilaus :)

but one, last question before starting my own clutch story tomorrow ;)
how far should the piston move out from the cover while holding the clutch lever?

mine is moving out only about 5mm.. I dont think its enought...

oh, and what about clutch spring? any size? ;)
as I want to buy all stuff tomorrow...

5 mm. sounds ok. It only needs to release the clutch plates.

Good luck, and have fun

I wouldn’t know about the springs, but I changed mine at the time, but I was also getting desperate in getting it to work.

hello there,

dont you think that the o-ring wih diameter 26mm/3.5mm will be a little bit too small?

there is about 2mm space between o-ring and piston..

diameter of my piston is 26mm

besides, no place for skf 608 zz bearing ;) so it seems I have different piston..

cheers
greg

no way mate, it seems that in my piston pin itself is a bearing (?)

(red spots are the balls bearing ; )

(sorry fow bad quality)

besides, inner diameter of piston is 19.5mm
and diameter of bearing (skf) is 22mm so...

but I`m completely newbie so I`ll appreciate your help

You must remove the inner ring of the old bearing and find an appropriate new one (complete!)
If You can't find it in SKF catalogue, go searching in F.A.G. or any other manifacturer.
Never, (I repeat N E V E R !) put new balls on old rings!

thanks Nicola,

I cleaned the pin, cleaned bearing balls, put new grease and put the pin into piston..

I`m really confused.. so it seems that there shouldnt be any bearing balls near pin
(red spots on picture above ;) ) but full bearing?

I hardly can recognize what that is in that last photo. It looks totally wrong.
Could it be that the outer race of the bearing ist still inside your piston ? It may have come apart.
Is there a pic of your pressure plate ? There have been cases where the middle section of the pressure plate broke out and basically welded itself to the pin/bearing or piston, probably due to excessive heat after a bearing failure.

the "middle section" looks ok,

dont know what to think about it, I think that the previous owner didnt look after a lot the Paso
as for example in the clutch cover I found spring (!) insted of (screw-)thread

so maybe he couldnt find appropriate bearing, so just put this "pin" with some ball bearings?

anyway.. what about o-ring? should it fill all space in piston groove?
as you can see on the previous photo there is some free space..

and, about friction plates, dont know why this information is so popular in the internet but
clutch plates from suzuki gsf 400 DO NOT fit the paso...

I have read sth about plates from monster 600, anybody checked this out?

cheers
greg
