Very interesting style trend. Very '80s.
The 750 Paso has weaknesses but overall I think it is a great There are little touches on the bike which say "Bimota". No surprise considering who designed it.
The eccentric chain adjustment, machined alloy pieces, integrated mirrors/indicators/tail piece, etc. The twin oil radiators with fairing ducts for example, really impresses me. It's something Honda did years later with water cooling.

I've found you either love or hate the design. I personally love it. Every time I walk up to it when in the car park, or outside the shop I fall in love all over again. I'm constantly taking pictures of the damn thing  Just get the inherent issues addressed (which aren't much) and enjoy the rides. Trust me, I get far more admiring looks and comments than looks of disdain and thumbs down. And who cares what people think anyway, it's my ride not theirs. With some decent cans for a deep rumble...nuf said.

Being part of this forum made me realize that I am not the only Paso tragic out there. God bless these guys and girls as they have posted every conceivable fix/remedy for any problem you may have with your new ride, you just have to look, the answers are here. I am by no means a mechanic but have been able to strip and rebuild my 906 with a bunch of mods with the help of this forum.

Always get asked what year it is.

That also happens with the Ferrari.

Paso - timeless design. Like the Countach. Not everyone's cup of tea but it's a design classic.

The Paso is an acquired taste from years of evaluating the brand and the motorcycle industry in general. For Ducati, it was certainly a turning point. (Quick, Name a Ducati model from the 80's) In the industry, you can see the influence in design for years afterwards. It was in instant classic, and every magazine had it on the cover. A new rider isn't drawn to a Paso. Only riders that have owned several, maybe dozens, of bikes in their life. Its kind of the difference between drinking coffee in Italy compared to drinking coffee at Starbucks. Both are coffee to be sure, but the flavors, nuance, atmosphere, and experience is so far removed from one to the other. If you have never done it, you can't possibly understand. And you surely could not convince someone in a Starbucks that the experience in an Italian cafe on a mild afternoon is that much different, or better. They just aren't going to get it. Same for those who haven't spent time on a Paso.

Be happy that you have been enlightened to see the value of a Paso, and relish in the thought they won't be fighting you for parts. You need a certain level of commitment and experience to be in this group. The naysayers just don't have the stuff to step up yet.

Cheers, Phil

Phil,

Well said, my feelings exactly. I have been regularly commuting on my Yamaha TRX850 and keeping the P750 for weekend rides. Hadn't been on the Paso for a few weeks and when last on it the difference between TRX/Paso is remarkable. It shouldn't be, they have similar power, weight, etc, but it is certainly the Starbucks Vs Italian cafe experience. The Paso easily wins on the riding experience.

Cheers,

Fraser.

Totally off topic but some time ago I`ve seen pictures of an Elefant with a TRX850 engine. Quite interesting, I thought.
Oh, and if someone goes for an Elefant, take the GT. It`s imho the best choice even if it only came in grey. (the IE had a 5 speed gearbox and a 42mm fork, the AC used cheaper suspension parts (BOGE/SHOWA) and was a lot lower, probably as an attempt to boost sales volumes which had been rather low from the start)

My first ride on a Ducati was on a 907. A friend got it new from Moto Italiano back in the day. I found it very impressive.
I have sat on a 906 and I was very impressed with the ergos for me. It's like buying a suit, very personal and individual.
While the Elefant interests me greatly, I am only 5'8"! I would need a ladder!
