I started SLOWLY parting out my ’87 Paso 750 just before winter last year.

Anyway, I now want to sell the front end as one complete unit; complete forks, upper linking plate, steering crown, etc. My question is in removing this from the frame.

I have the steering head removed. I know that you should not re-use the steering bearings once removed from the column. If I unscrew the adjustment ring nut and remove it, when I extract the fork pin from the column, will the bearings come falling out? Can I safely remove the fork pin, remove the entire front end from the frame, put the pin back in, and then put the adjustment ring nut and head back on?

The front end is in great condition and I’d like to keep it that way. Obviously, I haven’t done this before to have seen it, so any additional information is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Too late. Engine, frame, wheels, about all that's left. A few other misc parts.

All mirrors, plastic, electric, lights, tires, more gone.

Just think of all the Paso's that live on . . . you're welcome very much!!!

Once you have the upper triple clamp removed, you remove the round stem nut (ccw - loosen the pinch bolt first).....

...once this nut is removed, the nut can come off and then you can just roll the fork assembly out from the bottom of the steering head.

The upper, taper roller bearing will stay with the race inside the tube. The spacer (distance piece) will also stay on top of the bearing and probably be held in place by the seal....This is with a green, aftermarket seal (the original is similar to a washer with the inner ID lined with rubber)....

Here is a top view with the spacer removed and the new (aftermarket) seal in place....

The bottom bearing is press fit onto the steering stem, which is in return press fit into the bottom triple clamp. The race for the bottom bearing will stay in the steering tube, as this is press fit into it. Here is a picture of the bottom race still in the frame (the old seal is partially removed in this picture)....

I can't think of anything that you may have issues with in removing the front end. It is fairly simple to do. If you have any other issues, feel free to contact me, as I've removed everything but the engine from my '87 Paso in the last 11 months.......You have the two spacers that go between the engine and the swingarm available? It is the piece on the far right in this picture....

Thank you VERY much! That was easy. Everything happened precisely as described, no issues.

Frame Bottom, after removal:

Front after removal:

Again, thank you for your help and btw - I have yet to remove the engine from the frame, so yes, I have the spacers.
