I've got a white limited with the original clear coat over the "limited" sticker, 24k miles, and in almost mint condition. sold out of Arizona and into New Zealand, (now it's at home on the lonely twisty roads) .. It has Mukini carbs and Kokusan electrics, it has the american tail light with stickie out rear indicators, the spedo is in miles per hour. The VIN is ZDM 1DA3N 9 JB 754059 does anyone know what these numbers mean ?
It has R1 stamped into both heads, does anyone know what that means ?
Being a small person I've lowered it by turning the chain adjuster upside down, now she's a breeze to handle when stopped etc.. I've spent the last few months tuning and adjusting her and now she goes smooth as and buzzy as with no flat patches , just a joy to ride.. which I do all the time, it's a pity its winter at the moment ..
Surely there must be someone from the 80's from Ducati that could explain once and for all what the "Limited" thing meant and what was going on in their world that made Ducati so interesting for us in all these later years ...

Would also like to know the full story about the whole "Limited" thing. For one thing, it doesn't appear Ducati put the Limited decal on all Limited models sold in the U.S., a point noted by Ducati historian Ian Falloon. My white '88 is supposedly a "Limited," but it doesn't have said badging anywhere.

Hi, sure wish Ducati had the serial numbers of the enhanced Limited's. I have 3 with original paint and went down and checked the vertical exhaust pipe on them and 2 had the dimple so does that mean that they are enhanced? One also has the race exhaust from ducati but of course that could be added to any of them. Guess I'm going to have to invest in a bore scope to see if they have the flat head pistons. Anybody know of any other way to check without taking engine apart?Wish the pictures hadn't dropped out from the OP. Thanks Arch.

Ok, just took tail panel off my one limited I hadn't checked and the vertical exhaust is 40 mm OD and it has the dimple so for those of you that have limiteds do you all have 40 mm pipes and the dimple? Got a bore scope coming so I can check pistons and see if they have flat tops. Thanks Arch.

Interesting. My original paint white '88 supposed Limited (it does not have the "Limited" sticker) has 35mm OD exhaust headers. No dimple. So the story supposedly goes that all the white models were Limiteds, but perhaps the real truth is that only a handful of the white ones were truly Limited by virtue of having a bigger exhaust system? It's interesting that none of this shows up in any of the factory parts catalogs, but then I'm discovering there are quite a few changes that aren't reflected in the parts catalog.

According to the production numbers there were 50 "White Ed." and 50 "White 87/88 USA" 750s made. Murphus, the latter might be what you have. I wonder if the info about the engine mods is correct as there were 50 uprated USA and 50 uprated California Pasos produced. These might be the mysterious Power-Pasos. The info in the microfiche could be theirs not the Limiteds. It's said the uprated ones were red. But then who knows. Who knows if Ducati themselves still have any documents of that rather chaotic era.

Bore scope came in yesterday so went down and checked one of the pistons in one of my Limited's and it was flat so hopefully it has the uprated engine in it. So perhaps all the Limited's with 40mm pipe with dimple are uprated? I know this is just one data point but really trying to figure out this uprated business. Falloon says 100 red ones had the uprated engines but never have read about anyone in the US having one. Maybe they were made for the European market and white ones just for the US. Regards Arch.

Or if there's no indication how to identify them amongst the standard red ones some guys may own one of these not knowing what they have.
