Post subject: | PASO 750 REMOVING FRONT TIRE |
Hi all, I'm in need to replace the front tire and going with the 130/70-16 size. I understand some rising for the front fender needed. My question is, how difficult is to remove the wheel to take to the tire shop? Do I need special tools?, I do have a front stand to lift the front, I never removed a wheel from bikes! ![]() Thanks in advance for your info. Salvatore |

I can just about remove the wheel with the bike just on the centre stand. To avoid damaging it I remove the front mudguard, then the 2 brake calipers, loosen the fork pinch bolts, then use the large Allen key from the toolkit to undo the spindle. By taking the weight of the bike at the bottom of the fork leg in one hand I can then pull the spindle out with the other. A suitable block of wood under the fork legs can then support the bike until refitting the wheel. To help the spindle slide back in to the right hand side fork leg I've turned (on a lathe) a very slight chamfer on the inside edge of the large diameter part of the spindle, makes locating the spindle a lot easier. And make sure that the speedo drive hasn't turned as the spindle is tightened otherwise the speedo cable will be bent and will quickly break (as I once found out...). another method I like to keep the front end off the ground when on center stand is to put sand bags or something suitably heavy on the rear of the seat, make sure you lay a blanket across the seat to protect it. a couple of sand bags will usually do it. We have lead shot bags at work which work really well because they are physically a lot smaller that sand bags for the same weight. good luck John |
