Post subject: | problem with starting the bike, relay? |
hello there, I have some problems with starting the bike, when turning the key on - all the light turn on ![]() but when to press "start" button the engine doesnt start. it helped when I kept holding the "start" button and hitting a little bit relay (the thing that have 2 wide cables - one from battery, and another from elsewhere ![]() but now it doesnt help. to start the bike I have to make "short-circuit" (by connecting these 2 cables for a second) the only way out is to replace relay? any idea where to get this? cheers greg |

your dealer or ebay ? ![]() if you need to change it anyway you could try to open it. I found the following instruction longer time ago and translated it from german. I never did try it myself. http://www.box.net/shared/njqjcaortr The relais on later Ducs is a Toshiba which can be used too, but it requires a mounting bracket. You could also adapt a relais from a jap bike if necessary. (then it would be good to know the max. required currect capacity though) G. |

Does it crank over if you flip the KILL switch to off and then hit the starter button?? These starting problems are common on the paso and if you look in the FAQ you will find posts aboout this and how to fix it. In the USA we call that BIG relay a "starter Solenoid" . |

ok, thank guys, eventually there was problem with small cable that goes to the "starter Solenoid" ![]() and after replacing everything work fine.. but... another problem ![]() slowly (from the 1st gear), its ok, but some days ago when to starting from crossing, when I get on 1st gear and release the clutch lever - the bike almost didnt move, and it was quite strange noise from the clutch. (not this lovely sound of dry clutch ![]() and hold the clutch lever - the noise was really terrible. but just waited some minutes, and came back home without any problems... I am going to have my Paso serviced (as I am not good enough yet ; ) but anyway - what could be that? |

Antti, you`re right. I just remebered it was something japanese ![]() Greg, at this point it would be just wild guessing what happened to your clutch. It`s just so much it could be. (from worn clutch discs to other worn or broken parts) |

I am guessing that it is most likely the bearing in the slave cylinder which is going going going and eventually will be gone. You can get an replacement kit. which will include: bearing, piston and o ring. But the first thing I would do, is to take the clutch lid of and inspect. Happy paso working ![]() |

hello, got the clutch open, and what I saw was a very thin "driving discs" even some parts of material (they are built from) was missing, and some falled apart when taking out discs.. yep, that means that I have to replace them, but anyway is this a reason that my Paso have problem with fast starting? ![]() cheers greg |

For the start problem, look for voltage drops between the different points in the circuit. I found my largest drops were at the on/off and start switch in my bike. I had replaced the solenoid previously, with no improvement. Cleaning the switches out and their contacts solved the problem. I picked up my solenoid at a yamaha dealer, btw. |

I just take clutch cover out, pressed the piston with my hands, got the clutch level hold, and got sth like that: (i cut out my dirty fingers ![]() dont you think that piston should come out more? and here how it all looks: what do you think about it? cheers greg |
