So get this - Bike starts fine, ride two block to store. Come out and go to fire it up and nothing, no click, no ugh, no nothing. Lights are good. No loose wires, etc. Jump started 1st time with my pickup truck. Get home. Let it idle around 1800 rpm for 10 minutes. Shut it off and attempt to restart it - nothing. Voltmeter reads 13 + volts on the battery. Mind you, the battery and the solenoid are new as well. Cable are secure. on/off switch and starter button assembly is fine.

Is this signs that my ignition switch is starting to play tricks on me?
Its really too nice of a day to pass up a ride - I guess I'm going to have to park on a hill :banghead:

Got a simular problem. As you've noticed, begin your search by checking the starterbutton, then the starter relay etc. If you don't have a descent wiring diagram yet, I'm sure you'll find one on this forum. Also you need a tool to measure if circuits work. Dunno the english term. Here it is multimeter.. Your voltmeter could be this what I mean

Well its the ignition switch - I held the starter button down AND then turned the key - wroom!
Of course this doesn't happen every time. I had to do it several times earlier today.
I haven't been covering the bike at night and we have heavy fog around here
so maybe a good drying out is in order before I go taking things apart.

I just had to take mine apart to fix. Got lazy and did not put the relays in when I switched to dual H4. When you take it apart,be very careful when you pry the switch plate off. keep your thumb on the plate or the springs will fly.Take your time and work it slowly with a small screw driver. Once you have the switch plate off you can clean the terminal strips of corrosion. If it is melted like mine was you may be able to trim the melted plastic off and be almost as good as new. I had to replace my switch plate which luckily I had. Use lots of grease when you re assemble it.
G has a series of pics in the 750 FAQ. 906 is a little differeent but the same process. If you need some help let me know I have some pics as well
One other thing to note, My break away bolts where threaded so I used a 10mm bolt to get them off with a jam nut
Good luck and keep me posted
Higgy

Oh God Higgy - :banghead:
Just what I needed to see . . .
Hell, its a full moon, I've got bills, bills, bills and now,
no thanks to you, I have those photographic images of yours
in my head of the inevitable shit waiting down the line for me that
I'm surely going to take to bed to fester and chew on until the cows roll in . . .

Who am I kidding - I just put the bike cover on her and called it good

P.S. No worries Higgy - you know I'm just blowin' :fart: out my ass

Don't feel bad at all  Went to add the relays to my Paso for the headlights and ignition and found all my leads to the digiplex corroded and falling apart. One of the downsides of connecting things to the battery directly( digiplex grounds to the battery). Electron migration. causes the wires to corrode from the inside out. So instead of a short job and back to my jetting project I spent the last 4 days cutting out wires and replacing them. All of the connectors on my spare harness had the usual corrosion on them but the wiring was good. So it was cut and solder the whole way.
So at least it is done now. Dual H4's shining like the sun even at idle.Ignition working at full capacity so never even stumbles cold. Voltage regulator working like it was meant to work. Ignition switch nice and cold at all times. Now if I could only remember where I saw the article on limiting electron migration from the battery all will be well and I can get back to the weber and the next set of trials. Of course here it has turned cold and rainy, so don't expect too much sympathy from me,you being where you are where it is always mild and sunny

Actually its been frozen every morning for the past 3 weeks - So my problem has progressively gotten worse - over the course of ONLY a day! - So you say I should check my wires to the voltage regulator for corrosion? This could explain a lot of issues I'm having like when its running at idle if I hit the horn the motor dies, etc.

I posted a question in the 750 forum about ignition switch compatibility. Maybe you have some input?
