I was riding to work today and the bike started stumbling like it had a fuel problem. Eventually it took to the side of the road. Once I hauled back to the shop I discovered that there is no spark - turns over just fine. So my worst fear is the Kokusan units - has anyone had these symptoms resulting in bad kukosan units? I have other suspicions as well mind you - the kill switch, the upgraded wiring i.e. coils to relays, etc. BUT I'm really wanting to know how the bike behaves when these Kokusan units fail. Thanks All |

It appears my 900ss uses these same Kokusan units, and I lost one a few years ago. The bike was difficult to start, and was only running on one cylinder. For example, after 2 min's of idling, only one cyl was warm to the touch. The bike could be ridden, but it was gutless. EDIT: Oh, and here's an interesting twist. Both spark plugs had spark, but the one that turned out to be bad had a yellowish spark, not a crisp blue one.... Swapping the Kokusan units caused the problem to follow the unit, and swapping the unit for a known good replacement cured the problem. My problem was caused by leaving the key on for several hours, burning out one particular ignition module, the one powered up at the spot where the crank stopped. It seems unlikely that both of your modules burned up while under way.... |

Clean your grounds and check fuses first. If still no spark and you're out of ideas, Trevor at santa barbara ducati or munroe motors up north can help. |
