Hi all, I am at a turning point with my Paso, after falling in love over the summer, it developed a knock so I took it off the road for a while so i could have and get it looked at in case it was terminal. I have got Mike at MD racing in Kingston UK and they have diagnosed that it's an engine bearing, as opposed to a clutch bearing which was what I was hoping. He reckons it's only just started to go, but it'll have to be replaced… Only thing is it'll cost me a fair whack to get that done. Does anyone know of spare motors for sale out there? (I know it's a long shot but I thought Id ask). Or other wise what is involved in putting an ss motor in? Im trying to weigh up my options and make a decision. Or shall I bite the bullet and get the bearing replaced? What do you guy's think? J ![]() |

If you can wait and see if a good bottom end shows up on ebay, then do that. Conversely, if you have some medium wrenching skills, you can pull the engine from the frame fairly easy. Then it's not much to take the engine to him that way. Stripped as far as you are comfortable. That will save many hours of labor. For him to pull the cases apart and install new bearings on the crank isn't a big deal. You probably don't need a top end rebuild and new belts and a valve adjustment can be done too. This repair doesn't need to cost an arm and a leg!! |

This is a long shot, but as it just happened to my paso I'll post it anyway.I had a rather loud rattle appear in my engine recently, kind of like a clutch rattle but louder, and it would come and go,when I started the bike it was usually fine, then after a few km's the rattle would start, and quite often it would vanish again just as mysteriously.I was thinking the worst, big ends etc.I pulled the clutch cover checked that area, all good, pulled the belt covers the sound got louder.Probably gudgeon rattle I thought.Anyway to cut a long story short,I was tracing an oil leak that had been getting worse, and it led me to the bottom camshaft pulleys. The seal had become perished and had slid out of its hole under crankshaft pressure, but was being retained by the washer at the rear of the pulleys, and most of the time it was sealing, but occasionally,(usually at idle),it would jam sideways allowing all of the racket inside the crankcase to escape,as well as a little oil.Replaced the seal all good.
