Hi Guys.Iam New to this site so i hope someone can help me.I have just aquired my freinds 88 paso 750 and am trying to reserect it. i have done the fuel lines ,flushed the tank ,new battery new starter solonoid,but no go just a single click.Any comments would be good. thanks |

Did the bike run when he stored it? Try this: Put the bike on its center stand. Take the spark plugs out. Place the bike in gear. Turn the tire, this should cause the engine to turn over. It isn't easy to do, but it should turn with the force of one hand. If the engine turns over, you've got a problem with your solenoid or starter. (the "click" indicates your button and wiring to the solenoid are ok). Try shorting a screwdriver across your solenoid large terminals. Be careful, there will be sparks, and whatever you use to short the terminals will get hot. Wear gloves. If shorting the solenoid causes the engine to turn over, you've got a bad solenoid. If not, the starter is suspect. If the engine doesn't turn over, you've got a mechanical issue. Possible causes: rings stuck in cylinder bores, engine crankcase full of fuel from leaky carbs (hydrolocked), or mechanical failure. |

You have done nothing wrong yet. Yeah, check to see that the motor turns over first. Even a good starter won't turn over a stuck motor. Pull the plugs, squirt in a bit of oil, and turn the motor over to coat the cylinder walls. This will help boost compression until it starts. A dry cylinder doesn't have a lot of compression. Put in some fresh plugs. Champions are pretty good and low cost. If it hasn't moved in a while, you should confirm that the clutch will disengage. A dry clutch can take in moisture and rust the whole thing together. Put it in gear, pull in the clutch, and push the bike to break the pack loose. In the worst case, you have to just pull off the cover, and loosen the 6 screws, loosen up the pack and re-assemble. Cheers, Phil |

Good point but according to the wiring plan the side stand switch on the Paso only opens/closes a ground connection for the warning light. G. |

Thanks For Alot of tips. Have taken the plugs out and can turn the rear wheel in gear reasonably but its not so easy as one of suggested.So i am guessing now its starter motor,but am open to more ideas. Thanks Andrew

Put a few squirts of oil in each cylinder and leave the plugs out while you get the starter to turn over. Spinning the motor at a reasonable speed will help get oil up into the heads where it hasn't been for a few years. Once you get it all spinning freely, then put the plugs back in. Are you getting voltage to the starter when you push the button? Cheers, Phil |

Are you getting a spark at all? After letting my Paso sit for 3yrs, the inductive pick-ups went bad. It did everything it should when I pressed the starter but start. It did pop occasionally when trying to start: The coils tested good but no consistent spark. Hope that helps.
