Was just riding along today (JRA) after 60 miles when oil temp buried its needle to maximum along with the fuel needle (to full). Possibly also turn signal lights on dashboard also went bright (hard to tell in full sun).

Intermittently the oil temp gauge would return to more likely value (lower) but would quiver.

Engine had no issues and appeared to run fine.

Does anyone have any ideas before I spend quite a bit of time reviewing the electrical schematic?

Thanks!

Maybe uncorrect grounding because of rust or heating, Have a look to the connections under dashboard and to the ground wire.
As extreme measure you can open the rear cover of the dashboard, put a new wire under one of the negative threaded pin of any instrument (rev counter, clock, oil temp, fuel level) and ground it.

Nicola,

Thank you very much for responding. It appears to have been a faulty ground on the oil temp sensor.

When taking off the fairings, this wire essentially carries the load for the oil coolers and hoses. Probably a good idea to disconnect oil cooler wiring before removing fairings.

Turn signal lights appear to stay on as warning for a turn signal bulb not working. Replaced bulb and that problem went away.

Test in driveway good. Will do full test tomorrow.

Chris

As a follow up rode test ride. It was about 170 miles mostly in the mountains including highway 28, 64, and 178 in Highlands, Cashiers, and Rosman NC. Not a bad day.
