1988 750 Paso with orig. GOLD valve caps, only 50 made?

Mmmm, I think that the gold covers got fitted to the later engines with the removable circlip that allows the opening rocker to be slid sideways to allow access to the opening shim , old type you had to withdraw the rocker shaft and remove rocker to get at the opening shim , so probly a few more than 50

Speaking about gold valve covers. What are you guys using to repaint them? I'm having difficulty finding a match.

Often in classifieds or ebay auctions it says one of only 50 or one of 100. Where does the number 50 even come from?
The only Pasos of which only 50 were produced were the white ones and the uprated ones but that was in 1987.
In 1988 a total of 560 red ones were manufactured of which 350 were California models and 55 US models. So you might say it`s one of 55 but that info is worthless as the 55 were just the last batch of 1.065 that were produced in total.

I gave the caps a clean last time I did the valves. They came up pretty close to the same colour as the brake calipers. Brembo gold maybe?

Thanks Nick. Mine look a much yellower shade and not so metallic but age might have something to do with that. Brembo gold sounds good to me.

My 1988 Limited (white), from what I have read, was 1 of 50 produced and it has gold valve covers. But I've seen gold covers in pictures of other 750's in this forum so I don't think that rumor is true. At first I thought they were anodized gold but they are just painted. I know, this is not helpful........

Researching and found on this forum the number of Gold Valve cover's in the later 88 models. Mine is a US Non Cal (one of 55) but with the removable circlip. Found the gold valve coves ones (750 Paso Red) to only be 50, I believe in Ian Falloon's book. Still working on confirmation. Thanks so for guys. Also, where did you find the signatures on your bikes?

Derek , I guess someone could have already re-painted your covers the wrong colour ........ but I don't ever recall seeing covers that were like Crunchy bar gold either . My 906 covers have a sorta mustardy tinge to them and I aint even sure its supposed to have gold covers in the 1st place

'Crunchy bar gold'. Yes that describes them spot on. I'll repaint them this winter with something more like Brembo gold and that will hopefully stand up to sand blasting by muck thrown from the front wheel at the horiz exhaust cover.
