Had a dry run at fitting my mod today, all look good, need to make a new basket to hold the slave, tidy it all up and will put some pics on when finished. Never knew how noisy the clutch is, you can hear it over the exhausts!!

does it looks somewhat like this ? I found this on a japanese website. Someone made it for an early 900SS. I`ve never seen anything like it

The slave is similar, but in an open clutch cover. The slave is held in place with a stainless steel basket. Sorry I haven't put any pictures on, I've had some other things to sort, new exhaust, idle screw seized and broken vacuum gages to fix so I can finish setting my carbs up now the bikes done a hundred miles(been off the road since 2002). I will try during the week, I need to paint the slave, might go for gold as I have some paint, red pressure plate and new stainless spring/bolts. I'm going to polish the cover, job for next week!!

I just saw a similar one to that yesterday. Went to buy a headlight off a guy who has set up a 900 for period racing and he had purchased 2 bikes from Japan, one being a basket case. It had a similar design to that. Slightly different slave and a bigger plate that covered 4 of the cover mounting holes. Not nicely machined like that one but just a home made 10 or 12mm plate with a couple of speed holes just to pretty it up a little.

Makes me wonder if it comes to that in the future that this mod could look nicely executed if you used a round plate covering the case properly and then get some nice hole patterns machined into it for the ventilation/cooling. By that I mean just for the cool factor and sound.

Although with the availability of the later pistons still I don't really see this as a necessary path unless we run out of covers because they have been down the road. If cylinder bores wear they can be stainless sleeved so as long as the pistons and orings are available there seems no real need other than to be different, not that there is anything wrong with that.

Sorry this has been quite, I've had some other problems with the bike(rear wheel bearings and a seized mixture screw on one carb) so this has taken a back seat. Got the cover and slave mounted and fitted but it didn't seem to want to sit central on the pressure plate, so binned it as didn't want to ware out the clutch. I've also bought an SS Junior, so this is in the prosses of being refreshed. I have had the idea to have the clutch hosing case machined out in two or three places this should let some sound and dust out. I'm not worried about rust as I don't use the bike in the wet, and the clutch is rusty anyway!!
