Yeah it gets confusing but with the barnett clutch I'm actually running 7 friction plates and 7 plain which is the correct number of plates for this model , all fitted correctly and looks all the same as with the old original, I can't see a problem but won't really know till she's all finished and tested

On another note should this key barrel and lock have a plate on the base covering the wire and connectors, I don't seem to have anything?

Just ordered new front and rear discs from Queensland and they read very well and look the business so can't wait till they arrive, great price so I hope it was the way to go, old discs were very worn and my new gold paint would turn to shit pretty quickly once put into action I think due to movement at the rivets, cheers

I have ordered screws for new brake discs as old ones I polished but already show slight surface rust, possibly have all real soon and fit next weekend, the search is on for replacement dashboard or new printed circuit display panel for my original as the rest I think I can restore to a reasonably good standard, any ideas there would be much appreciated thanks , I'm trying to move forward but these sort of details can slow things down a lot, I won't start bodywork until most small details are taken care of, in saying that I'm chafing at the bit to start panel and paint

For the key barrel find a plastic cap with a matching diameter, cut a gap into it so you can slide it on and fixate it with a cable tie. That will be sufficiant to protect the electrical contacts.
The instruments and panel are the same for all Supersports (600, 750 & 900) incl. the '98 FE (Final edition) so finding one is not an issue. You can also find them with a third intrument (oil temperature gauge). You can compare part numbers on the Stein Dinse website (http://www.stein-dinse.biz/eliste/index ... =ggg&lg=en)
Instruments of a 851/888 will fit as well. Rev counter and speedometer have a higher range tho and prices are probably higher.

Polishing steel bits makes no sense. :truck:

Getting ready for replacing discs and screws also reconsidering the Tomaselli clipons I originally had a winge about on another thread , said they wouldn't work now I'm not sure , I find it easy to lift the whole bike , get it all ready on the bench first, feels like I'm going backwards but result should be worth it

G , I will go with the idea of yours on key barrel cover, that will work fine, I'll play around with that a bit. Here's a pic of the Tomaselli,s

As Paso750 mentioned the revcounter and the speedometer are the same as used for the SS Series from 91 to 97. I’m working on a SS900 (model 93) and finished the my dashboard some days ago.
I had problems with the screws on the backside of the instrument which is used to mount the whole unit to the subframe. As there where some cracks in the plastic material the bolts wher loose and tightening of the nuts was not possible any more.
My solution was to fix this by using of a cyanoacrylate adhesive with a very low viscosity (app. 10 mPas). This glue penetrate due capillary attraction into the cracks and bond the bolts to the plastic material.

The speedo and the revcounter are crimped together and repair is not so easy.
I got a wooden carrier which I used to open the crimped ring with a screwdriver and crimped it together again with nail punch. The ring which is corroded at yours is made of sheet metal and can be painted.

Rob, it's not a trick. I have only two sets of speedo and revcounter.

Important is that you can clamp the glas with the gasket and the body together in order to achieve a good crimping.
