Post subject:  please call Michelin

Hello fellow Ducati owners, I need your help!
Since Michelin has (discontinued) our "favorite" tires A59x/M59x Hi-Sports we should mobilize! Please call Michelin customer service and advise them you need them to build tires for your bike! If Michelin knows how many of our Ducatis are still around maybe they could produce a couple hundred sets or so?
Just a thought!
Here is Michelin's USA customer service phone 800-847-3435 the young lady I spoke with was as helpful as possible, so please speak up!
eh

hey guys, i work at renaissance motorcycles in Tucson, Arizona and I'm trying to help a customer find some tires that do work for his 750 sport. The M59x and A59x are done. There is one website that sells them still (onlineparts.com), but almost no businesses will install tires that you did not purchase through them. Anywho, have any of you changed your rims to 17" rims or do you have any suggestions to keep these bikes going?

Andy,
As front tire you can find 130/70-16 (one member put 120/80-16 Metzeler on his Paso which uses the same wheels). For the rear 150/80-16 was done before on a Sport (but I personally think the rim is too wide for this), a Paso rider uses 160/70-16 Metzeler and I will go for an Avon AV72 180/60-16 with 130/70-16 AV45 ST on the front.
The Sport swingarm must be wider as a 150/80 hardly fits in a Paso swingarm, so the other sizes mentioned shouldn`t be a problem to fit on a Sport.
(on a Paso these changes require lifting the front fender, using a 520 chain and some spacers under the sprokets to move the chain from the tire, not sure if this is necessary on a Sport also).

Ok so I have been on the phone all day with Michelin Tire dealers, it would seem some one has been purchasing the remaining stock in the last 2-3 weeks or was that us? Motorace said that Michelin North America knows we need tires and has spoken to Michelin France, who say its NOT in their production schedule.

Come on guys make some noise! Nicely

Shall we make "card of condolence" here with everybodys names & @mail addresses to Michelin France ???? I think, that this site is only way to make collection of names of guys, who really need 16" Michelins... Ok, this was only my thinking...

Dave.

If someone would make such "poll" to these sites, i am "voting" surely!!! (not so difficult to make new topic, but surely ONLY "voting" WITH REAL names and REAL @mail addresses, WITHOUT COMMENTS about "thing"!!!!!!!!) Sorry, that i am little depressed about this thing already, but i really want to keep my 750 Paso, as it was meant to be...with 16" low profile tires!!!! Still: "comments" about things must be in OTHER topic !!!!!!!!!!!

Have any of you Sport owners tried these tires mentioned in this thread?
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3132
The Paso owners have a clearance issue to put a 180 on the back. Is that true with the Sport?
(mine has a later model swingarm, so I cant tell you if it fits or not)

Also, don't forget that switching to a 17" rear is very easy with the Sport. Just buy an entire rear wheel assemby from a 750 Monster or SS (complete with brake, caliper and carrier) it fits right into your existing swingarm. If nothing else, it will speed up your steering, which the Sport can stand.

Let me know if anyone has tried a 17" rear and a 16" front. I think it will work out fine.

When I changed my bike to 17" wheels, I raised the rear ride height with an adjustable shock, and lowered by forks in the triple clamps about 35mm. Quicker steering is nice.

Cheers,

There is a thread in the 906 forum that is talking about using a 17" rear with a 16" front. There are several cases of stock bikes made that way, and one member who has been running his bike that way for 8 years, and loves it.

This sounds like a very viable option for the Sport.
Brownie points for anyone who is tries this out and reports back.
Anyone in the Bay Area want to try this? I got the parts in my garage to try out. You just need to buy a 170 rear tire.

Cheers,
