Hi there. I have a 'lil question. Why is there such a difference of weight between the 750 Sport (dry weight 195 kg) and the 750 SS (dry weight 173 kg). How did they manage to gain 22 kilos on bikes which are nearly identical ? I think the wheels are lighter on the SS, but how much, and apart from that what explains such a huge difference ? I'm asking because I'd like a 1993 750 SS for Christmas (my other bike being a 1989 S). Thanks and best wishes to everyone. |

Creative math?? The weights for all manufacturers are crap. You need to find someone that owns it and have them get the bathroom scale out and weigh it. |

i have removed all the road gear of my '89 sport, carbon muffler (only one as it's now 2 into 1) and stripped the wiring harness to what's only needed to race/ride at club meetings and track days, copy of F1 single seat & half faring - and with no fuel but oil and i weighed it - 177kgs. |

One big difference is the fairing bits. The Sport used a pre-preg type of panel which is really heavy and thick. The SS series went to ABS injection molded plastic. If you get a set of aftermarket fiberglass bodywork, you can cut another 10 lbs off or more. Certainly the Sport didn't have a lot of extra crap on it, but the body work is horrendously heavy. the rear frame section on the SS series looks to have a bit less tubing in it, but after that, I don't know where you would hide the weight. I weighed mine years ago, but can't remember exactly, but its under 400 lbs.
