Hi folks. Just got a 1989 750 sport. I am looking to fit some nice brembo calipers and even bigger wheels, what is the best duke to get them from? Or can someone recommend where I can source new parts?

Tony

Welcome to the site Tony,

Start with this thread and go from there, lots and lots of info on the site available that literally covers all things Sport and Paso through the Sticky Notes at the top of each model forum plus the inmates as well.

Have a read through these to get you going

Tony,

There are many ways to do the conversion, to start with you will have to make up your mind on wheels 1st, usually a 3.5" x 17" front off any 90's/00's Ducati will do and the rear is a preference choice on what size rubber to be run, I went with a 4.5" x 17" rear off a Monster, but you can go a wider rim with a bigger tyre but rubbing against the chain line can be a problem.

There is no quick or cheap way to do the conversion and there are lots of fiddly bits involved so it is not a weekend job, parts may have to be machined up for wheel spacing and so on, plus there other ways of doing it, complete front ends, bolting in a complete 900SS swingarm, and yet still more.

Nobody can really advise you which way to go, that is purely up to you, I'd find a local Ducati workshop and have a chat to them about how and why, before out laying anything.

I ended paying someone to do it, I can be a bit mechanically challenged at times and it got beyond my abilities.

Also keep in mind that there are tyres now available in the original sizing (which weren't when I did mine, plus it was a track day bike), that various site members have fitted

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6598

and the general opinion seems to be good, it's the reason most, I'm not saying all, but a lot of people did the conversion was to get access to decent rubber when Michelin and Pirelli stopped making the tyres 16" to suit.

As to calipers Bevelheaven along with some others sell an adapter that will let you fit 4 Pot brembo's to the standard forks and 280mm rotors and keep your 16"'s.

As a suggestion it will be easier for site members to respond if you could keep any questions and progress reports to a single thread.

Good luck with it all, and remember to take your time with it, and do post pic's as well, we are all keen to see before after and in between photo's.

Cheers

Peter

Peter

I have decided to keep my rims and forks. I'm going for brake upgrades instead....

Thanks for the advice. On the tyre front, who still make tyres to fit my 16"

Anyone know what best carbs to fit. I hear Delloroto are the best?

Tony

Tony,

This link is worth reading on Skinko tyres, which I posted earlier.

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=6598

Personally I'd overhaul the brake system if it's not stopping well, before doing anything else, flush the master cylinder and lines, pull apart the calipers and give em a good clean out, and get some braided lines (Hel do a kit that is available from most Ducati workshops), it all makes for a good start point, and if doing that make sure everything gets covered up with lots of cloths and so on in case of brake fluid being spilled or splashed around on body work.

Again if it's running well and not misbehaving, the old if it ain't broke don't fix axiom comes to mind.

It would help site members if you could give a bit of detail on the bike, how many Km's the bikes done, have the belts been changed recently, was it in storage or a running maintained item when you purchased it, that will all have a bearing on what does and doesn't need doing.

And again photo's.

Cheers

Peter

Tony,

Your more than welcome, it is the beauty of this site, someone will always jump in with advice or help, and the depth of knowledge from various inmates is amazing.

You have Gerhard and Jon to thank for it these days, and in the longer term if the site is of benefit to you please consider donating at some stage to help with it's up keep as it is privately run entity by people with a love of these bikes.

Have a trawl through the FAQ's it is an eye opener.

McTool may even offer to sell you some 24 Y/O NOS Michelins if you ask real purdy, mind you there in Unzed. :drunk:

Only kidding Hamish, how are they liking the hall cupboard.....................

Cheers

Peter

mind you, that is the later model braced swingarm so it should probably be OK.

Tony,

Were already fitted when I bought it, so no work on my part, I'm in Australia so no idea where you would get them in the UK, but I believe a set here is worth around the AU$1,100 mark.

Cheers

Peter
