Another silly question but not sure the setup with closer and opener cables to the throttle and the carburetor so any tips and advice would be very helpful, thanks

Thanks it's all a lot less daunting now mate, cleaning some grease away from rockers and oiling cables , I have rebuilt the carburetors with comprehensive kits , I'll keep plugging away

Fun trying to fit the throttle cable to the top bracket on the carburetors, the low one no problem but the top is a bitch, physically doesn't seem to fit between carb and coil brackets, I will keep at it but considering slightly offset the coil bracket holes and move that forwards , I guess its because these bikes are slightly different to later 900 ss with these carbies , old pics not clear enough but the similar old cables seem to fit so really scratching my head

Looking at it and it doesn't fit si something is different from pre stripdown , maybe inlet manifolds ? It's like I need to lower the coil brackets or so?

I spun the coil bracket around so the left one is now on top and it sort of fits but a bit jammed up but maybe that's all it will do without modifying something , not real happy with that so going to keep at it , if anyone has seen this problem before I'd be interested

I'm starting to think the only way is to move the coils forward 10 mm or so

What if you turn the right coil upside down?
I guess turning it so the HT lead is in the front makes no sense, does it? Is that the coil for the front cylinder?
Another idea (if that gives enough clearance) would be to replace those four top bolts with flat headed ones and bend the brackets slightly upwards so the coils would swing outwards. Does the carb sit correctly in the last picture? It looks like the rhs rubber isn't fully in place.
A tip. Find a short plastic hose that fit's over the carbs front adjuster screws. Melt one end, squash it and cut it off. It'll protect the screw from dirt.

have you tried loosening the intake headers? 1mm down there might translate in 2mm up where the carbs are touching the bracket.

anyway, if it is possible , you can drill the brackets and move them forward 10mm, this would be the quick and easy solution.

If I was you I would make a pair of new brakets with 2mm ALU and move forward the coils; alternatively you can find a someone with a plasma cutter and have them made in STST although i still would prefer the home made ALU version
