sorry to bother you guys with a simple question. I bought a 1990 blue 906 paso a couple of weeks ago. I drives great so far and it is still looking good, but I would like to fill oil in the engines since the window tells me that oil is on the minimum level now. Is it correct that I have to remove the front coverage first, and do I also have to remove the mirrors? Sound a bit complicated to me for just filling oil in the engine......furthermore, is a 10 W 40 Oil okay? Thanks a lot for your replies and many greetings from Switzerland..... :thumbup:

Yes you will have to remove the right (throttle) bidywork to fill the engine oil. You must chek the oil with the bike level and upright. Filled to the middle of the window is the proper amount.

10-40 is fine for the oil.

Yes, you only have to remove the right panel at the rear, the big panel with mirror can stay on.
You have to use a funnel that can come between te bodywork and te engine, I extended my funnel with a rubber hose, works fine.

By the way, you can also use 10W60 oil; that covers the whole range, thin enough to lubricate the cilinders-piston friction, thick enough to lubricate the needle bearings of the big-end... (sorry for my bad technical-english)

15W-50 or 20W-50 is MUCH better to Ducati, especially to gearbox! Gearchange is much smoother and not so much noise then... Never ever 10W-40 to my Ducatis. Very many here have been changed to 15W-50 in they Ducatis and i noticed same "better effect". I use Shell Advance Ultra fully synthetic and change 3000-5000kms depending, whatkind use. Every time filter also :thumbup:

Yes you can use 10W40 oil and fill it just over halfway up the oil level window. A full oil and filter change will require the right hand fairing to be removed, don't forget to clean the oil pick up strain filter! (to do this you must remove the lower right frame rail). Just topping up the engine oil can be done by removing the right hand side panel and placing a funnel into the oil filler hole.

That 10W 40 viscosity is not so good for Ducatis.... :thumbdown:

And also that "hard oil filter" under right lower frame is not "so important", if engine is in good order and in right hands. I havent find anything from that filter last 4 oil changes. I think, that better open that filter every second or third oil change... :evil: But if every time open that and find some stuff from there, then some things are not in good mechanical order in engine... :confused:
