I' ve had a set back, before I carry out the recommended fault finding, has anyone else had this problem? I have already replaced reg/rectifier with the Electrex one and fitted a new battery, has been working ok however, now the charging system is no longer working, red charging light is going off as normal, (but sometimes it does not light up when I turn the ignition on, then flickers until the engine starts, then stays off) only getting 12.3 volts with engine running, decreases on load...the other problem is the body of the rectifier body gets very hot including the 2 yellow stator wires, what does this indicate? Any comments apreciated.... ![]() |

trace the wires back to the connector that comes from the stator to see if it's melted and badly corroded. I have just had to do thia and cut the connectors off and soldered the wires together instead of having a plug. |

Thanks, will have a look at the stator wire connector.... |

Done a few tests, getting a good voltage from alternator 90 volts plus, checked continuity of wiring b/t RR51 and battery...but not b/t the unit and the yellow stator wires as they come out of the lhs casing, which with the good voltage I'm getting is probably not the problem ....the RR51 is still heating up and no charge showing. Is the heat due to voltage input into RR51 but if nothing is coming out (no charge) it heats up? Red charge light does not come on at all, and remembered that battery has been discharging itself during storage and no use within 7 days... |

All Ducati rectifiers (and Electrex also) function that way, that all current, what battery dont "need", it feeds direct to earth (by making heat!). More RPM = more AC voltage from alternator.... ![]() |

are you sure it was installed correctly ? (the ESR510 is the same as the RR51) http://www.electrosport.com/technical-r ... ctions.pdf http://www.hpi.be/appgallery/RR51.pdf Is there a ground connection to the regulator housing ? testing the Electrex reg/rect http://www.electrosport.com/technical-r ... -guide.pdf G. |

Might not be wired right! excess voltage does not go to earth but to the coils!!! If this has been so for too long I would expect the rectifier to be permanently damaged. |

Wiring to RR51 is correct. Have continuity between the yellow stator cables coming out of LH cover. My bike has only done 10000 from new and the electric cables and blocks are in good order, no corrosion found. Will now check diodes as per paso750s advice |

Popped into Electrex today, they are about 8 miles away, which is nice. They tested the RR51 and found it faulty, unfortunatly it was out of warranty, (15 months old) so had to pay for a new one. Left the old one with them, and they will check to see why it failed...will fit new one in a couple of days and report back. I suspect the faulty unit was draining my battery when bike was not being used over winter.... |

There MUST be some REASON, WHY it failed, so i am very courious to know more, what happened to unit and what was reason to failure... ![]() |

Sorry for delay. All Electrex could tell me was that it had failed. Output went to earth, so indicated possibly a thyristor or diode failure. This was also draining my battery. It was 14 months old but I had only covered about 100 miles. Anyway I'm back on the road! |

Seems, that also Electrex can be failed sometimes.... very rare! Its good, that they figured out, what was problems, as also we are now more wiser... ![]() |
