I dont think he'll be out riding, my guess is that he had just bought a new sprocket (you right Mc tool s-p-r-o-c-k-e-t, its all over the place) the sprocket fell from the cupboard onto his laptop PC and smashed it...where can you buy a new computer after a major quake?...so he won't be on this forum for a while, and no doubt he is out there helping his comunity

Recently, I have been hearing a random 'click' sound while riding my 906 and didn't have a clue as to what was causing it, as the motor has been running as sweetly as ever. Just before a ride a couple of days ago, I checked the oil level in my Scott Oiler ( Highly recommended addition to the bike) and saw a bent cap screw sticking out of the rear sprocket that was hitting the swingarm. I could shake the sprocket from side to side, as all the bolts are apparently loose. Haven't gotten around to cleaning and dismantling the rear wheel to replace parts, as yard work has taken some priority over riding. Anyway, I have an 85 Gold Wing for backup if I absolutely HAVE to go on a ride. I'm embarrassed to admit to my lack of attention on this Paso feature, but please know all of you, that you are not immune to this problem, just because it is a nice day and the road and twisties beckon.

I woke up in the middle of the night: Has anyone tried left-hand thread socket head cap screws for the rear sprocket? I don't follow the automotive scene but at least in the past, left hand lug nuts were used on the left side wheels of 4 wheel drive utility vehicles just because something about the drive force on the left side wheels caused lug nuts to come loose.

When replacing the rear sprocket, I discovered that the item listed in the JT Sprockets catalog is not correct - at least for my 906. They have a 6 hole bolt circle instead of 5. (JTR491.40 is the one you want, not JTR 735.40)
However, Sprocket Center carries the correct part, but you have to call it in to order: 888-265-2141 / 949-220-0555

When mentioning using left hand bolts, I should say that left hand nuts are available (Carr-Lane catalog, I think)in the metric sizes, and I assume they will fit the same pocket in the sprocket carrier.

I found (right-hand thread) 8mm socket head cap screws with a solid shank under the head, which was suggested elsewhere, so I will do that for now and report back.

I did this many years ago.
