Post subject: | Left engine cover removal |
Hey guys, So I tried starting the Paso for the first time the other night...got no were. Well I shouldn't say no were, I think I took a few steps backwards . As I was cranking on the motor she backfired, now the starter seems to skip/grind. I don't know if the engine kicked back against the starter. Anyway I'm now in the process of removing the left engine cover. I have removed all bolts, cable etc, but I can't seem to be able to get the cover off. Any tips, tricks or ideas? Thanks for the advice in advance, Conor |

You may not need one, just make sure all allen headed bolts are removed. Gaskets are no longer available, but Ducati recommend their special grey non setting sealant...it is good... ![]() Remember the cover being very tight to remove at bottom, so had to grind off a bit of the cover. Can take a photo next time I take the fairing off... |

I managed to use a steering wheel puller and got the cover off. The noise I was hearing was not coming from the starter but for behind the alternator rotor/crank. Any ideas on what it could be? Conor |

Behind the flywheel is the starter sprag. You probably have an issue in there. Check the FAQ for info regarding repair or replacement. California Cycle Works also has the proper gaskets. If I recall, you need the gasket for the space it takes up. Using 3-Bond isn't reccomended instead of the gasket. |

Yes it turns out it was the sparg clutch. The gear and the fly wheel are damaged. Can they be re-machined? I know the pictures are bad but you can still see the vertical marks left by the sprag. I found this online: http://www.gothamcycles.com/servlet/the ... ear/Detail Has anybody use this product before? I'm a little hesitant because it seems cheep. Bevel Heaven wants $130USD for the sprag alone. |
