Just like I promised as soon as I raced my Paso I would inform the Paso forum about the changes. But not only did I add cooling fans to the ignition unit I also placed a temperature sensor on the ignition unit and changed the Magneti Marelli ignition coils to units from a Kawasaki GPZ500s! The improvement to the firing has been exceptional. Here are the statistics : Before the coils were changed the ignition unit reached 29 C at 50 mph and peaked at 37.6 C at lower speeds. The Marreli coils were measured for resistance and were 0R4 (primary) and 3K6 (secondary). The Kawasaki coils were 3R (primary) and 13K8 (secondary), meaning at least 1/3rd less operating power. When riden, the temperature reached at 50 mph was 27.4 C and the peak was 30.2 C. Whilst racing (Donington GP) the temperature was 28.5 C and did not vary from that (external temp was 17.7 C). Before the coil change I still noticed a misfire above 7000 rpm but after, that was totally gone. Bauke's mod of using a relay to raise the supply voltage to the ignition unit has also been done.
