I was wondering if an ST2 engine will bolt into a 907. I've a few on ebay that are reasonably priced compared to an overhaul of a 907 engine. Just curious

Dunno fitment physically,
but it uses a different ECU which means a lot of different wiring issues etc.

I didn't think about all of the electrical that would need to be redone. I think I'll just go thru the 907 this winter. I am sure it needs valve guides and seals. I have 29K miles on it now, and it it uses about 1/2 quart every 1K miles. On the average, about how long will it go before it needs the bottom end looked at?

I had just over 50,000 miles on mine before I had the engine rebuilt. The alternator rotor cracked and siezed the engine at a track day. Metal particles went all over the inside of the engine. So while you are at it you should have it balanced and blueprinted, the bearings shimed, that plug in the crank fixed, and maybe replace the gear set that turns the shalf the valve belts are driven from, and the heads flowed and valve guides, etc.
Mine cost about 4K USD.

I'm gonna swap a ST2 engine in my 907 the winter ahead.
I've the engine in the States 2 years ago for € 400. the required ECU and wire looms are present. A set of Carrillo's is waiting to be assembled.
still there are a lot of parts to change before adapting the rear fork and rev counter. Butt we'll see.

it might be out of the question but you can do a carb conversion with the ST2 engine. A friend of mine did that with a set of Keihin flatslides. All you need are pick-ups with mounting bracket, flywheel and ignition modules from a SS, 906 or other. If the engine misses the mounts for the pick up bracket, these need to be welded in.

Cool idea.

Actually,
since the Ignitech TCI-P4 can handle 900ie & 1000ie ignition,
it would work f ST2 too. And no pickups would be needed.
You`re giving me new ideas, G, ..... Just need a solution f engine mounts.
