I have a water leak from the reservoir.
Unfortunately, today I have seen the reservoir is broken.
Since, it is no longer available at the Ducati dealer and I would avoid making another metal one, I would repair it.
I've heard in the forum it might be repaired with a plastic welding.
But, here in Italy, I never heard about such kind of craftsman.
Could someone tell me about that plastic welding?
Ciao

Francesco,

This plastic welding is very common in the automotive industry. They weld the plastic bumper covers which most modern cars have.

Thanks Fraser,
but, has someone tried to make such kind of repair?
The problem is the pressure into the reservoir, so that, for example, the glue doesn't work as told me a friend who tried to glue it.
Any advice?
Ciao

The plastic welding should hold much better than glue. The plastic welding will heat the plastic until it melts, the crack will be sealed, a bit more plastic will be added to seam and it should heal nicely...at least that's the hope.

The plastic welding works very similarly to metal welding.

Ok Seanery,
but, searching on the web, the plastic welding seems to be only an industrial process, so that I'm not able to find any solderer near to Rome.
Do you know about craftsman in such kind of welding? Has someone experienced it?
Ciao

Frankie,

Do a search as there has been a discussion in the past with good pictures of the metal replacement. I don't know about the plastic welding. I hope it works. You should go to a very large autobody shop and see if they have the welding stuff. It's use on car bumpers to make repairs.

Hi Jon,
I remember the topic about the metal replacement and I know a metal craftsman who might do it.
Here in Italy, the car bumpers have repaired with the fiberglass.

No matter, I'll ask.

Ciao

I've seen a 907 with the reservoir glued, and it was working good!

in Italy it's called "pistola per colla a caldo" ("hot glue gun") and it's available in any do-it-yourself shop with its cylindric glue stick.
It looks like an electric solder wiht a conic edge. Very easy to get and use!

Remember guys, that in hole world there are hurdreds of different plastics and if U use in your gun JUST same plastic, then it function, but that normal gun glue DONT fit to expansion tank.... Plastic welding is only way to repare it very well, if that problem in tank is some hole, etc... Normally those expansion tanks leak FROM BETWEEN HOSE and PLASTIC.

I already have got that glue gun!!!
But, when I tried to glue something, it never worked!
There's some special kind of glue to use with?

Antti,
I've just seen the water reservoir that I have as spare part.
It has been repaired cutting the warped hose that has been replaced by a stronger one, fixed to the reservoir with the fiberglass.
I have tried to fill it and it doesn't leak, ever if, obviously there isn't any pressure into it.
I'll mount it on the bike and then I'll think how repair the mine.

Ciao

Ive been looking on web here in UK.
You can buy plastic welding kits which have heater gun various plastic welding rods etc for £140.00p.This would fix your repair do you not have such in Rome

We also have a strong glue over here called Araldite which you mix from two tubes one hardener, one compound this is very strong and Im sure might help.
Let me know if you want a pack sending over
Cheers

I believe the tank is made of polypropylene it can be quickly welded with a Leister Triac hot air gun and polypropylene welding rod. Roofing firms use them for welding the seams on TPO roofing (which is manufactured in Italy) see picture.
