Evening all,

Not been on here for quite a while as my 907 has been in storage for a few years.

This leads me to my question. If I were to find myself in possession of a 907 which had been sitting for a while, and an ST4S which is working well but which (while quite legally owned) is not UK registered and I decided to use the ST4S to upgrade the 907, how far do you think I could go?

Ohlins forks, front brakes, Ohlins rear shock, light 5 spoke wheels, ally swingarm, 996 motor... how much has been done before? Is it straightforward? Could I for instance just fit the ST4S yokes and whole front end? What about the 996 motor in the 907 frame - does it fit? I'd have to use the ST4S ECU/key/antenna/immobiliser etc I guess.

I appreciate it might not be the sensible approach but that doesn't normally stop me...

Any thoughts gratefully received.

Cheers

IanE

why dont you just fit the 907 frame to the st4s?Surely it would be heaps easier to change that one part than to take all that stuff of the st and then have to fit it all to the 907 :)

reading all this, you're running out of options.
MSVA test maybe? if you get the ST4S registered you can try to put on the 907 plastic, to convert it into a "907". this maybe easier as trying to put everything into a 907 chassis. ST front end won't fit. the diameter of the stem is different and the 907 probably has no sufficient room for the triple clamps between the electronics on the left side and the coolant reservoir on the right side. Also the electronical connectors and wire looms are quiet different.

to the un trained ear(like mine) ducati clutch rattle does sound worrying. ebay sales can be a bit of a nightmare. people should always view the vehicle prior to bidding. i was half tempted by the bike myself but as you state, the way forward is quite problematic. why dont you, as a suggestion, sell the st4s vand put the cash or some of it into recommisioning the 907? breaking the st4s will bring in a fair bit of cash.  :)

Hey nnnnnnorman I had to laugh at your comment 'should always view a vehicle prior to bidding'. The guy working on my 907 (the '1 owner, 1900 miles from new' etc etc) turns out to be a little bit of a horror story. The mechanic removed the fairing panels (never went to the auction or I would have too . . .) to discover that at some point in its life the engine had caught fire. All the electrics were destroyed and the wiring that replaced it is all very amateur - apparently. Tank and some panels almost certainly new, paint must be.

More than a little miffed but - my own fault - didn't check it properly - the re-commisioning bill just went up!!

The 916s - which I know has been used on the track and expected to be a bit of a dog - has (apparently) never been dropped and always been - as far as can be told - very well maintained. Clean as a whistle and sounds like a snarling dog.

How can I have reached this age whilst being this stupid?

NO! Don't answer that!

Rhino,
you're not alone.
I so bought my black 907.
I was quite lucky because I found out only the fork was flabby.
My great friend nojapan fully overhauled the fork for me.

As I told, you're not alone: often the bikes are like the girls.
We fall in love for without knowing we are doing...
And sometimes we wake up the morning without knowing who's the girl in our bed

Ciao

we all do it rhino from time to time. sometimes its a winner, sometimes its a loser. you're the lawyer.
any misrepresentation from the seller or owner? people pull all kind of stunts in order to sell a vehicle. good luck with it. and im glad the other bike is a good un! :)

Appreciate the thought nnnnnnorman. But auctions are "Sold as Seen" and I wasn't there! I got a great bike for a bit too much money - do I really care? Nope. I didn't buy it as an investment (or I'd have spent the £3K on Claret) I bought it as a bike, and hey, sometimes they break. I just got this one a bit broke. I still love her and I will enjoy enjoy her greatly come the Spring/Summer - especially when we all organise a run. Be great to put some faces to some names.

And

Francesco - hai ragione !!!!

Hi,

I got a 907 i.e. engine conversion to ST3-engine.
I did that about 4 years ago.

In december, I totally disassambled the bike for restauration.

Regards,
Johannes
