The 907 was the turning point financially speaking. Keep in mind I bought my first Ducati,a 750GT in 1974. It was one of 15 Ducati's sold in the tristate area, not 15 gt's,15 Ducati's. The dealer YBH sold Guzzi,Triumph,Norton,Laverda,Bultaco,Huskies and a few others to stay afloat. The local Honda shop had a 6 month waitng list at any of the 4 dealers in the area . When Yamaha, took over the dirt bike market,
YBH died a slow lingering death.Even back then you had to love working on them as much if not more than riding them. You had to order most parts and wait weeks for them to show up wrong. Something always was in need of repair or tweaking. The hot tip back in that era was to go to the local K-mart and by yourself a couple of coils for 5 bucks and replace the crap coils that cam from MM. Then and only then could you be relatively certain the bike would start if there was even a hint of rain in the air. At the time I worked at a Yamaha dealer that sold 15 bikes by lunch time.
Look down on any other Ducati ? not me never. The only bike I look down on is the one doing wheelies in traffic in a school zone

yeah your probly right about the finance bit . I was trying to remember what else they were making at the same time the paso showed up.
I could count on one hand all the pantah;s Ive seen in the flesh ,just about true for bevels too, and that is a NZ thing as our nearest neibours (Aus ) were 3 deep in them,I geuss what Im saying is that from what I have seen I might think that pantahs and bevels were not that significant in the history of ducati ( I know this is not true )and the average non biker thinks that ducati didnt really start making bikes till the late 80's when the 4 valve donks started kicking arse ,however I can remember the 1st paso I ever saw ( 1st west coast rally .... Cheers Carol ) a 906 ,I loved them then, and now I have a 906 which I will never part with ,I would think a 907 would be the right bike to put next to it, but then I would feel obliged to also get a 750 to make the set , but tbh I would rather have a 916 than the " other "2 paso's..............................and as luck would have it I Have found a 95 916 biposto, 23000k's, now all I have to do is find the money

I have absolutely nothing against the 750 Paso or Sport. Have no desire for a 996 or even a 916. One of those would be like signing my own death warrant. Not enough self control. I think my next bike if any will be an ST2 if I run across the right one. My very next bike will be a Honda cb 350 or 400 4banger for my wife and son to learn to ride. Something rock solid and easy to handle while learning. But then again, last weekend I lost another close friend to an errant 4 wheeled ass hole. Just 33 years old with a child in the oven. Impact sent him flying head first into a stone wall and his helmet down the road a good distance. Impact also set the car on fire. He died instantly and most likely didn't even know what happened. Small consolation for his new wife and unborn son. One more shattered families dreams to a distracted driver.

I'm pretty sure he had a major hand in the Paso redesign, if not 100% responsibility. Don't know if this qualifies as "evidence" - they're only web pages, but:

http://www.vivaducati.com/index.php?opt ... &Itemid=72

http://www.designindaba.com/speaker/pierre-terblanche

Terblanche wasn't my favorite Ducati designer, but he did create the Supermono, my absolute favorite Ducati of all time.

AS far as the 907 being the financial turning point of Ducati I completely disagree. It is a highly updated face lifted version of a style that just wasn't what the market wanted (witness the BMW K1, the MM dart, etc...), and it just didn't sell in the numbers needed to possibly be a financial success. It's replacement, the Monster, was the turning point, with help from the 750/900SS.

Ok, i have still something to learn, as i read those web sites and found these(if human can thrust to some web pages anymore!!!):

"In 1989 Terblanche joined DUCATI Rimini, where he worked for two years with Massimo Tamburini on the Paso restyling and the Ducati 888." (from 1. link)

"In 1989, he joined Ducati Rimini, where he worked for two years with Massimo Tamburini on the Paso restyling, Ducati 888 and the 916." (from 2. link)

I accept, that he was connected to Paso project some way, but under Massimo Tamburini surely. Seems, that story dont tell what was Terblance's work with Paso?... Does enybody know any books, where his connection is mentioned? :smoke: Anyway Massimo Bordi played with engines, not with bodywork...

Btw, that Supermono sound is awesome! I have it in my civil mobile if someone call me.... In workmobile i have Russian national hymn...hahahahah.....

Without the 907 and the updates done at the time, the rest would have been a pipe dream and Ducati would have gone the way of Laverda or MV or Benelli. Weather the 907 was financially a hit or not it showed that Ducati could build a decent bike at least to your typical rider. Ducati has always been one of my favorites. Yes I agree the monster made them More mainstream than they previously had been and put them in the black more than another model. Since the Monster came about, every one that rides knows the Ducati name.

Hey Higgy, take care of my baby!!

My brother saw this thread and said "I recognize that manky seat"!!

I thought I would check in.

I will look for the other bits this weekend, but no guarantees. The parts I have for you arent that exciting, but I will certainly send over anything I do find.

In any case, it is reassuring that my old girl has gone to a truly insane Ducatista and will be in good hands!

Steve

Perhaps we need a discussion on the proper application of Ducatista, Ducatisto, and Ducatisti? I don't recall the details!!

Don't worry Stimpee, Ducboy9. New seat is on its way, dual headlight just needs to be installed and the wiring to accommodate it, broken or missing bits will be attended to this weekend as well with bits from the donar 906. Remapping might have to wait a bit till my work schedule settles down. I have a few donated bin files around but have not had the chance to look into them so far. Be sure to stop in here from time to time, I'll post a pic or two for you to see how your baby is doing thumbup:
Good luck with your move Stimpee  and don't sweat about the parts, its fine either way. :truck: Ducboy9, Not sure the Staintunes will make it back on or a set of F1's I have laying around. I kinda like the look of the stock pipes and once the clutch racket is resolved they do have a pleasant rumble to them    Tisti, tisto, tista, Its all good
Take care guys, if you ever find yourself this way stop in............We'll go for a ride... OH, and Stimpee you wife asked me not to tell you about the Desmo picnic in August, looks like I may have 3 Paso's to show this year, need one more rider to get them there If you are interested ;)

Higgy,

I was not aware of this clutch racket? It is a Barnett with probably not a ton
of milage.

I was always mezmerized by the Staintunes on that bike. Even more so than Termi's on a
900SS. That particular set is rather lacking in the "pretty" department but they sound awesome.

In any case enjoy it, I am now, ironically, missing it. ugh :banghead:

Stimpee, I think I was correct in my use of Ducatisiti, although I could have used Ducatisto to refer to Higgy alone. tisti would be plural as addressing a group, tista would be the singular feminine version, and tisto would be the singular male version.

My 2 lire.......

Ed, Where in Pa are you?
The racket is typical, but easy to fix if it is not too beat, its an ear to basket clearance issue, low mileage is helpful unless its the original basket. I have another candidate How far did you take the upgrade?
I am kinda partial to the Rennsports, not that I could find another pair :,( I have them on my 906 and love the hell outta them.deep raspy note, often turns heads thinking a cobra is coming  I have had in the area of 50 different exhaust system from many a tuner including a set of one off cans for a TD-1c had been fabed by Erv Kanemoto. Yoshimura also makes a nice set of carbon jobbies very clean deep tone. I think In the end I will leave the stock items on the 907 or fab my own if I have the time.
