| Post subject: | Clutch fluid |
On my 1992 907ie which I just bought I notice the clutch fluid window,on the left side of the bike, shows no fluid.Can I just add fluid and to where do I pour it in,and what type fluid.Im a newbie so please have patience.Should I see a level when the bike is off??Thanks |

on the left side of the bike, you mean on the clutchpump (not the window on the left side of the engine) ? May sound like a stupid question, but you never know. Take a wet rag and place it below the left steering half covering a part of the fairing and instrument cluster. The clutch fluid is brake fluid (DOT3 or DOT4) and that is agressive to paint. It will leave ugly spots. Brake fluid is removable with water but if you`re too slow to wash it off you will already have spots. (so you may have a bucket of water closeby just in case) Put the bike on the center stand and turn the steering to the right so the reservoir of the clutchpump is in horizontal position. Do you see fluid in the window now ? If not remove the cover of the reservoir and fill in some fluid. Do not fill in too much as the rubber part inside the cover takes away some space and if you forget about that fluid will spill when you put the cover back on. Also do not pull the clutch lever when the cover is removed as fluid will squirt out and may land on your paint. The clutch fluid level has nothing to do with the bike being on or off. Oh, you can remove the 2 screws of the reservoir cover before turning the steering as you can better reach them. In that case try to hold down the cover with your hand until the steering is turned to the right just to prevent spilling. Instead of putting the bike on the centerstand you can also ask somebody to stand on the right side of the bike and hold it so you can lean it to the right a little bit. I usually do that while sitting on the bike, but the 750 is lighter and the risk is that it will fall over so better do such a stunt in two. G. |
