Post subject:  Any Custom 907's

Hi all,
Has anybody undertaken a custom job on a 907, not just paint the whole thing but keeping the old looks, updated in the same way of the sportclassics ?
Another motor maybe,
New front & back suspension (a set of upside down forks)
Brakes
Convert a ST3 to look like a 907, great looks but modern parts..

Thinking of going down the track of a project bike? Any ideas,

Regards

trevor
PS been away with the sportclassic sport 1000 for the last two years, just sold it and looking for the next bike, I keep looking at going back to the old favorite 907. Can’t get them out of the system.

Hi Trevor,
I'm going to.
received last week a ST2 engine, and dealer has a cable loom and computer for me.
further I'm looking for a set of additional ST2 heads for porting and two-spark options.
the problem with twin spark is to keep it water tight!!
this gives the posibility to increase compression futher. A set of Pistal pistons can do the job. combined with a set of Carrillo conrods. i bought these a long time a go for an other project, which is never finished.
Crank will lose weight as well and the whole set needs a balancing job.
further there are a lot of engine parts which can loose weight.
My lathe and milling machines will take care of that.
I'm aiming for 100+ hp on the rearwheel

a few years ago I bought a set magnesium rims of a racing guy, who used them as wheels for raintyres. so, they had an easy life.
Oh, by the way the looks of the 907 should be as much as possible orginal.
Its the story of the wolf in sheepclothes. I like those kinds of bikes.
the seat is lowered for an more upright position. the tank and plastic will get a spray job.
the mastercylinder is a Nissin type??, but performs great. a set of stainless steel braided hoses as brake and clutch line will improve further the braking. If I can find a set of milled Brembo calipers I'm happy.

I got a lot of titanium nuts and bolts from a friend who stopped with his Motocross shop.
This will lower the weight further.

there are much more jobs to do.

So, as you see, alot of work to do

like to hear from you,

regards

Hi ducbertus!

That sounds like where I want to head, either the same motor worked a bit or upgrade with a ST3 or 4 as a donor ?, these bikes are cheap and are not very nice to look at anyway (sorry to any owners)
I like the seat lowering idea, have you change the frame or other ways, at this stage this is only dreaming/ thinking which way to go but its getting momentum. I’m not sure if I should buy a frame/rolling chassis then build up from there or buy a full bike as the parts are getting hard to get and cost plenty to buy.

The plan is, 1/ the bike must have the same looks, 2/ have better brakes and suspension 3/ seating improved 4/ lighting (head light) power improved 5/ motor and cooling system upgraded for today’s traffic work (more power is not the only consideration but is wanted). 6/weight reduced.

The bike will be used for weekend blasts and days away as designed in the first place

That’s my thoughts on the project so far???

Hi Gert and Trevor,

I talked about the wiring with my dealer.
He suggests a 900ss ie ECU from '97 I believe, because these ECU are easy re-programmable. This will be necessary with the jobs planned.
He has the ECU as a spare in stock, otherwise we would take something else.
The wiring loom will be a mixture of 907 and ST2. Depending which sensor (907 or ST2) will be used.
It's quit a lot of work, but can be done.
In an other action I won the throttlebody complete with injectors. Maybe the junction between the inletrubbers and the 907 airbox gives some work to do. We will see.

Lowering of the seat is done by reducing the foam thickness.
This is done by the former owner. The shop who did the job for him, did a great job. It realy look like a factory job. I just fit in the cowl, but can slide sideways during cornering.
A passenger can look better along your helmet as well.
I think the lowering is about one inch, maybe one and a halve.
I can easily reach the ground with my feet.
As far as I can see the frame itself is untouched.
