Hi folks although I will be using the search button to solve a few problems I am now preparing to sort out the bike I collected last Sunday ready for the British roads.

I am hopeful that I may of found a source for some new body panels for a 906 which if the forum is correct will fit the 907ie.

A previous owner has a replacement offside mirror in his garage so a letter has been posted for a price if it's still there? Otherwise it's ebay - there is one there but at £50.00 - a bit steep me thinks?

I have had to replace the clutch slave cylinder innards as these were worn out.

At some stage the bike has had a chain snap which has caused a few nasty grooves in the swing arm that should polish out. The chain is well used and the Cogs/Teeth okay, also the gear box has no damage to the outer bodywork.

Which brings me onto the next and possibly more dire problem, I took the risk of starting the engine for a slow 2 mile drive around my local block after checking the condition of the belts ( it has stood for a while but has been regularly started ).

Although the bike drove very well there appeared to be a very sloppy rattle coming from 2nd gear when engaged - it may of been the slow speed and the rear chain which requires a tighten, however the noise went away in 3rd. I didn't reach a high enough speed for the other gears.

So could this be a gear knackered, maybe a bearing or a linkage?

I have taken the sump plug off and fished the mesh filter out which apart from a miniscule aluminium shard was clear, I have also pushed a rag into the sump and soaked up the oil, and used a magnet on a copper stick with no foreign elements found thus far.

My local Ducati shop suggest it may be a previous owners constant wheeling that may of buggered the 2nd gear and that I would find the evidence in the mesh filter - I haven't!

So any ideas, I am hoping I won't have to split the engine so any ideas on solving/finding where this noise may eminate from appreciated.

Just for the record although I can't confirm the bike has done 30,000 miles on the clock and the engine has at some time been opened up with the heads off as there are the tell tale signs of glupe around the casings and barrels.

Also does anyone know a link to a scott oiler site that shows a diagramatic picture as I think i have two thirds of a system fitted and want to set it up again if possible.

Regards

Steve

I am hopefull that it may be throttle lag although it really did rumble inside, again it may also be drive chain wip. I fit the new belts on Friday so hope that the next test drive will offer some clearer indication of the noise especially as the clutch slave cylinder is no longer pumping out fluid aswell and the drive chain wll be tight and the air filter fresh. The clutch appears to be in very good condition if a little noisy - it has been drilled out by a previous owner.

Would a selector Fork cause a gear box to rumble/rattle ?

The transmission is pretty hard to hurt so I would leave that as the last thing to get serious about and you have to split the cases to get at it. I would start with the sprockets. Making sure they are not completely worn out. The chain must also be checked to make sure it's not jumping some of the sprocket teeth.

Work your way up from there to other spinning items.
