Gents (Ladies?) I am new to Ducati.... Looking for some advice and comments. And now that I have posted in the correct forum, maybe I will get a response, lol! I looked at a 1993 907ie on Sunday... 53,000 miles, $3500.00 US Any idiosyncrasies with this bike? Things I should look for that are particular to the bike? -like the radiator tank splitting I just read about? 53,000 miles- would I be in line for an engine rebuild? (I plan on having them do a compression check). How's the price look? Please comment to evadr@hotmail.com Thanks, Dave I own a 1981 Honda CB750 F super sport, and a 1974 Harley Sprint (Aemacchi) 350 |

welcome to the jungle! Compression ceck is not an "invasive" test, you can do it anywhen. Anyway, you should be careful with the timing belts and the valve gauge. A standard maintenance (oils, spark plugs, filters...) should do for an engine in normal conditions (not raced or damaged ![]() Have a nice work and |

I suspect that I might have looked at the same bike -- is it at a Duc dealer in Massachusetts? If so, I thought it was a good bike, especially since the dealer has serviced it the past 4 years, so they know it. I owned a '92 907ie, and would like another. It was a fabulous bike. Reading various forums, this one, ducati.ms, nedoc.org for example, it looks like you can get most parts and find substitutes (eg, fuel pump). For now, I'm still looking for a lower mileage example, but buying from a Duc dealer close to home with a dealer 30-day warranty is tempting. For a first Duc, maybe take a look at this 650 Alazzurra, looks pretty good at $1995: http://burlington.craigslist.org/mcy/794619801.html Assuming you are in New England, be sure to join nedoc.org -- good people, good rides, good help for newbies and old timers -Kurt |
