 Post subject: Fuel Hose leak
PostPosted: Sun Dec 28, 2008 6:33 pm
Hi,
I have a fuel leak that occurs whenever I leave the bike idle for a week or more. I'd like to replace all the hoses. I also wondered whether the pressure relief valve was sticking over time. Can anyone suggest how I can measure the fuel pressure and what I should use to replace the hoses?

Many thanks

Chris

hose replacement is tricky...
some Ethanol blend fuels degrade the hoses very quickly...I have had several burst (inside and outside the tank)

the fuel pressure should be 3 bar.
this is measured at the tank outlet; the test gauge just "T" in line
you can do additional tests at the injectors (to test for drop) but this is difficult.

Thanks Laddie,
I'll look out the best hose and make sure I ask before I buy. This stuff from Sytec motorsport looks suitable and is available in meter lengths quite reasonably.

I was wondering what kind of instrument to use to measuer the pressure. Surely I can't use a tyre pressure guage? Thanks for the tip about measuring at all points along the circuit. I recall having a problem with brake hoses degrading and peeling on the inside to form a one way valve. With no pressure everything looked fine and fluid would flow through the hose. Once any pressure was applied the hose blocked up and you had no brakes.

Anyone thinking of attending the Bristol (UK) Ialian auto moto festival this comming April? I hope to bring my 907 to add some class to the affair :D .

Will let you know how I get on.

Chris

Hi Chris,

I just looked at the website of Sytec. looks most suitable to me.
If you went to a wellknown supplier of motorsportparts, they can supply you the right hose line. Inside the fueltank you need an other line as outside. because inside the fueltank the lines are in constant contact with the fuel and outside you get an altering process due to sunlight (UV light)
measuring the fuel pressure you can use anykind of pressure gauge, execpt tyre pressure gauge. Any industrial parts shop can supply you. look at the site of for instance Econosto to get some information about pressuregauges. anyone with copper internals is ok.
