Tried search but did not find a reference to modifiy the 907 sidestand to a non automatic up, like a standard type bike sidestand that goes down and stays in down position until your foot brings it back up. I do not like the damn thing coming up on its own when the bike is slightly leaned towards center. I like to put the sidestand down before I get off the bike (I am old and rickety!). I saw a "bolt" kit offered by Nichols Manufacturing to do this but cannot figure out how it works to keep the sidestand in the down position. Any ideas?
Thanks

I can remember such a topic in the last years ones...
Something about a mod to the small plate hanging the spring...
Anyhow my dukess has a standard bolt instead of the special one in the side stand pivot ( the oem one is ablr to pull the "returning plate", my std bolt is not able to do)

as far as I know my stand is "standard" and stays down...
yes, it is touchy...only a little flick to get it to return up...but it does stay down when pushed down.

the idiot warning light is a nice touch, too...

maybe a slight forward knock might put it past the return point for you.
the spring set-up and balance is obviously finnicky...

having been once unable to perform a much needed left hand turn years ago on a 500/4 Honda that didn't have a returning sidestand I appreciate the Ducati system. A sidestand down can cause a really good highside...which we can all do without.
I often travel in Asia and spend half my time pointing and signalling to people who have left their stands down...

Here's that bolt.
A little bit expensive, but effective.

Thanks boys, I sure appreciate the help. Just took the '92 907IE for first 285 mile ride yesterday with 8 of my riding buddies, went down the Willamette Valley (Oregon) and back at carbon blowing speeds on all back roads, the 907 was just great, never missed a beat. Did not wear my ear plugs all day so I could just hear the sound from the modified exhaust and engine. Wow, what a great Duc sound unlike my '04 Multistrada 1000DS which has the full Termi system on it but still does not have the earlier Duc sound.

Thanks again, off to modify that suicide sidestand!

It's really an easy fix.
Just take the orignal OEM bolt that is already there, take it off, and grind down the head (notice how deep the hex opening really is) enough so that the pivot plate the springs hook to will clear the bolt. The plate will now pivot over the head of the bolt and the kick stand will stay down until you "kick" it. Presto, works like a charm.
