The first time I tried to start the 907 it was obvious that the fuel pump wasn't working. So I removed it, stripped it down, cleaned it up, reassembled it, replaced the fuel pipes in the tank, and it works.
O.K. As the pump is a non-serviceable item I wouldn't trust it long term, but it meant that the 907 barked into life for the first time in +6 years :) .
What a wonderful sound !
So, do I have to go to Ducati (I'm in the UK) for a new fuel pump, or is there a cheaper alternative ?

Thanks

P Man.

Thanks fellas
I can't see the part number, that is shown in FAQ, on Glencoe's site. Perhaps the part number has changed. I just tried ringing them but 'The bloke you need to speak to (Terry) has just gone home ', so I'll ring them tomorrow.

I spoke to Terry at Glencoe today.
He said that they can't get that Bosch fuel pump from Bosch at the moment. :( He didn't know why not.

I did a search and have ordered a pump from here - http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p1143 ... _info.html

They were very helpful on the phone
It comes with the fuel strainer, so I'll see what it's like and how the fitting goes etc, then I'll post the results.

I've passed up the chance of a couple of days off and a trip to France to afford this, but ever since I got the bike started and heard the sound of it, I know it will be worth it :) .

We need to go that link onto the 907 FAQ with that excellent price in BOLD letters/numbers £87.00 is a lot better than the $500+ people have been quoted in the past. Good Find.

Here are some photos of the old and new fuel pumps.

The first photo shows the filter, which is easily removed to reveal the fuel pump at the bottom of the tank.

The second photo shows the old pump on the left, in its fitting housing, and the new pump on the right. As you can see, the strainers are quite different. The rubber tube on the original connects to the ' de-gasator '. (see photo 4).

The third photo shows the difference in size of the pumps. The new pump is supplied with two foam/rubber type sleeves. I fitted the pump inside the longer one and then cut the shorter one lengthways and wrapped it around the first sleeve, using it to bulk out the pump , thus enabling me to use the original mounting.

The fourth photo shows the new pump installed in the tank. The de-gasator is on the left. As there was nowhere to connect the tube on the new strainer, I poked it down into the little cut-out in the fuel pump mounting bracket at the bottom of the fuel tank.
On the right of the photo, you can see the fuel level sender.

Important tip !
Be careful with the wiring connections. On the original pump, the wire with the smaller spade connection on it is connected to the smaller nut on the pump. The larger spade connection is connected to the larger nut on the pump. The new pump has spade terminals on it, so you have to cut the wires and fit two, different sized, spade connectors.
Only they've reversed the connections at the pump, so check the polarity or the pump runs backwards. Guess how I discovered that ?
Well, it works fine now !

The total cost of the pump, Stock code ITP249, from http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk was £106.08.inc postage and tax. It arrived the day after I ordered it. Superb service

I hope this may be of some use to anyone who needs to remove or replace the fuel pump at any time.

Thank you, you are most welcome, as is anybody else.
I've got a way to go before I can use it in anger though.
Done so far -

Oil.
Oil filter.
Oil strainer.
Coolant.
Flush out fuel tank.
Coax seized fuel pump into life.
Fit new fuel pump and hoses.
Change spark plugs.
Bleed front brake fluid.

To do -

Fit new cam belts.
Check and adjust valve clearances.
Change fuel hoses under tank.
Clean out fuel delivery components.
Fork seals.
Fork oil.
Front brake discs and pads.
Bleed rear brake fluid.
New chain and sprockets.
New tyres.
Replace rotted, scratched, and dented offside silencer, or more likely both silencers.
Anything I haven't thought of or that hasn't cropped up yet !

That's just to make it worth my while taking it to an MOT testing centre !

But I'm enjoying it :)

P Man.

p.s. The pump is not currently available. See previous post.

I received two emails from http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk today - see below for explanation.
The pump is back in stock !
http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p1143 ... _info.html
I have to say that I am impressed with merlinmotorsport's communication and after sales service.

The emails -

' We can get this bosch pump (the 993), we actually have one on the shelf,
these are £149.00 + VAT, I don't have a ITP249 to compare it to, this I
think has a larger diameter body (maybe) the bosch is 51mm diameter and
110mm long (body only). '

and then - ' The plot thickens.....

It has been bought to my attention that we have recently been delivered 2x
ITP249, so I have put them back on the website.

I'm not sure what Sytec are upto, the kit seems to be available, but the
'technical' guy there seemed to want to know why we are using that number
because it is discontinued, but it seems they have them there to send. '
