Anyone put a K&N air filter on their Paso? Did it make it run lean or any other problems?

I did together with a FBF chip and a set of open cans

I had some "pumping" issues at full throttle (like the engine was not breathing properly) which I simply solved by removing completely the cover (trial and error procedure  ); then I tried with the standard cans and I actually preferred it that way and has been like that for the past 7 years.

Someone instead of removing the cover , simply drills 3-4 30mm (1" 1/4) holes.

Mixture issues after a K&N install are most frequently due to over oiling but generally it will run to the rich side for 50 or 100 miles. Can't say I have heard of a K&N causing a lean condition

Have been running a K&N on my old girl for some time now with no problems. She also has Termi's and runs very well without any other mod's.

Benefits...plenty.
Down side.....errrrrm, none that I can think of....maybe initial cost, but thats far outweighed by the benefits.

Im seriously thinking of fitting K&N air filter on my bike, does anyone have the correct part number for the 907 and approx cost...
another question, I dont like cutting the air box lid, but if I remove the rubber horns this will automatically increase hole diameter...is this enough to cope with increased airflow...I still have the original 92 filter now travelled 16K km
any information would be appreciated

I have left the oem airbox as it is. Bike still breathes well. As the filter is a straight replacement, I think it may well have been designed with that in mind.

I think the paso filter is the same as a Porsche 944, a 2.5lt motor [later biggeer] so i would guess that there is more than enough air for a 900cc engine, and in general we only need flow at around 4000-6000rpm. Want more power, twist the throttle, the only time flow is an issue is at wide open throttle [WOT]. How many times do you max the motor and for how long???

Maybe someone can do the flow rates, but I would also guess that the two horns are more than enough. Also that shape would help the air flow rather than a simple hole. Also I think the horn would keep out some water and heat.

Any way the throttle body is only a certain size, so that is where the restrictions are and its only a restriction at WOT.

My guess is that heat is the biggest problem. With 928s there has been a lot of carry on over making new air intakes, larger ducts etc with minimal gains in power at WOT.
The general feeling is at speed the air flows fast enough to not really heat up that much, unless you are compressing the charge.

I thought I read once that paper filters flow better anyway, so apart from the cost of on going replacement its not a lot of gain. I do agree though that a K&N is a must on a dirt bike along with a pre filter where you may be cleaning it every day. [Also include off road 4wd driving]

just my thoughts :)
