I had been thinking about an older Ducati to add to the collection, one that I could ride locally, to some places where older Euro bikes congregate, as well as a couple of events for older bikes. I wanted something that I could actually ride, 2up, and be comfortable. So after a bit of thinking about it and research I settled on a search for a PASO 907ie. After a bit I stumbled onto one that the local dealer had just gone through one for a customer, long story short it is mine now, I brought it home yesterday.






I've already found the right decal set and ordered it, got the center stand and it's on, polished the exhaust headers, corrected the self extracting side stand, and ordered a new set of stainless steel bolts/nuts for the fairing and fender. It is in really good condition and in reality needs nothing but a few cosmetic things corrected. I noticed that on the left switch gear the slot for what I think was an on/off headlight switch for the Euro version is missing the blank or whatever goes in there so any advice on what to do about that would be appreciated. I also noticed on the fairing trim there is a hole, guess is it was the odometer reset button - is that correct? I do have to admit I wish it made a little more rumble in the exhaust department, the stock is pretty quiet. I have not had much luck in my search for last 3 months, but I'll keep looking. Meanhwile I will try and cleanup the stock but the black really needs to be painted, will look for someone who can do hi-temp gloss black - lots of hi-temp flat black out there, anyone know a source in USA? The passenger grab handle has scratches on it but that seems easy enough to take off and get powder coated, got a great local source for that. Any other suggestions? Nice. I like the seat and the decals. Thats a 92 model going by the gold calipers, cans and seat profile. Not much different to a 91 but improved and more powerful allegedly too. The trip reset is on a cable and you might just be missing the knurled threaded fixing ring which is the same as carby SS reset. Cheers, Keith.

The 907 looks nice also with the modern decals, but do you want to apply the stock decals?

and as far as the decals go, I would either leave it as it is, or remove the modern ducati decal (if its not laquered in) and go with all the original signage, but not have both or they will clash...thats my opinion anyway

On the exhaust pipe front you might try reading the thread on just that point might take a while . . . (entitled Decent Exhaust Pipes?) - loads of options and loads of opinions.

However . . .

I have just been told about (and I am about to execute) a small alteration to the exhausts to get the rumble (you and) I want. I am informed (Tony Brancato of Brancato Ducati Engineering - a life-time on Dukes) that there is, in the very end of the silencers on the 907 a set of baffles. These baffles were not intended by the factory but were forced on them by various legislation in various countries (esp the USA). This baffle is located at the very end of the pipes and is held in place by two very small spot welds. These were designed by the factory to retain the baffle and are very easy to grind out and, if neccessary, replace by re-inserting and re-spot welding.

This modification - I AM TOLD - will not neccessitate any alteration to the engine set up at all (as after market pipes might).

I have just spoken (3 minutes ago) to the engineer where my bikes now are and he confirms the spot welds and the small baffle. I have instructed him to "get cutting".

I won't hear it run until I next see the bikes in February but I will let ya'll know.

Well that mod sounds better than the dead ends I've seen on the exhaust thread and if it can be done without another ECU all the better. I did contact FBF to see if they still had anything for the PASO and got a negative response.

I got the sticker kit, I'll use some painters tape to attach in a temporary fashion to see if I like it. For sure I would like to get the 907ie on the belly pan but if it clashes with the modern decal, well that means a new paint job since those decals have a clear coat on them. What is the wisdom of having the whole thing repainted? It does have a few stone chips although they are not that noticeable.

I also found a SS fairing bolt kit, very nice kit from a company in Georgia. Also found a company that makes/sells SS barrel exhaust clamp kits for Ducati

Just an update for those interested. Making some progress on it, the front fender had some military installation decals on it. I got them off and no residual fading that I can see. Now I have a spare front fender that I got off of ebay just in case. I also bought a NOS trip meter cable and installed it, turns out the old cable was lying inside the fairing, pretty corroded so used the new one. It turns out the fairing trim was installed incorrectly so the hole for the knob was on the wrong side, with some help here on the forum I found that out and have installed it correctly. There is a small, I mean eye glass small, flat head bolt that holds the cable to the stem, used some blue painters tape with sitcky side up to capture that in case it fell while taking it out/replacing it. I got it out okay without losing it, tape worked, but lost it putting it back in - damn it. Crawled around on the floor for an hour and could not find it. Ended up using safety wire to hold things in place, seems to work fine. I'll still look for the tiny bolt when I'm in the mood, maybe a glass or two of some single malt will get me in the mood. Got the passenger grab rail back from powder coating, it had some pretty good scratches on it, and installed it, geez is that whole assembly complicated or what? I noticed I have no tailight, just brake light. Also left turn signal is blinking faster than right. I did not touch the wires on the tailight assembly. Checked the bulbs, could not tell with these old eyes but looked like one of the filaments was bad, so I installed two new bulbs, still not working. Checked the fuses. there was a bad 15a, but once I looked at the schematic turns out it was the spare. So I'm going to start chasing wires, turn signals might be a bad ground somewhere, no idea on the tailight. I don't remember checking it when I picked it up, so I have asked the shop I got it from if they know if the tailight was working. I found a set of Conti replica mufflers but not sure if I will have to add a Power Commander or something similar, anybody know? I also took off the throttle the previous owner had installed, don't need it for this bike and the right grip did not fit correctly, now it does. Still very happy with the purchase and mostly enjoying doing the small stuff I can do. Anything serious comes up it will go to the local dealer, who just happens to be one of the best in North America with the awards and certs to prove it, Ducpond Motosports, I'm very lucky to have them close by. - Gene

I don't believe you can put a Power Commander on a 907IE, no programmable computer. They have very primitive electronics, same as on the 851 bikes. My bike had the stock mufflers cut open and reworked (by previous owner) and bike ran like crap. He had to install a Fast by Ferraci chip in the ECU which is all you can do. He also cut off the top of the air filter box but when I had dealer check on Lean/rich machine, the bike showed very lean, way too much air coming in. Plus the bike's engine noise was awfully load and annoying. So I bought a stock air box and added the stock air horns and bike now runs fine and lean running is gone. Others on forum might have thoughts on this also (I am not a mechanic nor a 907 expert). Your light glitzes all sound like bad grounds, replace all bulbs even if they look good, scrape off all tabs in the light sockets to new metal for a start. Good luck.

good work there Gene...your bike will sound much better with new pipes, and as far as the P7 FI system, just fit a good chip...the ferracci stage one should improve things, the rest (P7) is better left alone as its not primitive at all, remember ducati has won world titles with this very same unit...and lets face it, the 907 is best ridden at moderate speed.
good luck with the electrical glitches...they can be time consuming, but it can well be something very simple, the blinker box works with correct current flow, (as someone else already explained) make sure the globes are good and have correct watt ratings.
last point...if you're enjoying working with your bike...then the paso has found a good home

Hi there 2vtwin. I found a couple of pix ( took em special )As I hope you can see there is a cable to reset odometer, which attaches to a small shaft on the back of the speedo. The cable itself is just an "inner " flexi cable with a ferrel/ berring to mount the knob end to the dash trim. The other end is attached by a small screw to the shaft. Hope this helps

Thanks, that is a great picture, wish I had that when I was trying to figure out the screw/bolt going into the sleeve on the cable. I wish I knew what size it is cause to me having a flat head in that size is dumb, maybe an allen head or even a hex head wouls make more sens. Anyway, I'm going to find that screw/bolt that I lost on the floor, as someone had suggested try a magnet. I was using a small one last night, it's actually a tool I bought years ago, but getting a bigger magnet is on my list. - Gene
