I dropped my 907 this past weekend. I was riding with some friends in the North Carolina Mountains and we stopped to take a look at the map. I took off first and left my kick stand down, leaned into a left hander and the kick stand didn't come back up and leveraged the back tire, lost control and went down hard on the pavement then into a grassy ditch. Knocked the wind out of me, broke a couple of ribs, bruised my back, inflamed the artritis in my right knee, sprained my ankle.
Dumb mistake, big Consequences.
Some pictures below.

Hope you recover fast!
The bike doesn`t look that bad from what can be seen. The front and side panels are glassfibre so they can be repaired. The parts for the rear also can be found. I guess the exhaust is scratched, one fork leg probably too and one pedal is bent. If that is a small dent on the tank from the turn signal switch ? Then probably one steering stop is bent or cracked. Better try carefully bending it back and using a longer bolt than welding it as right next to it sits the lower steering bearing and its seat could warp from the heat. (It may be possible to cool it when welding)
Except for the rear I`ve been there too although the cause was a different one.

For all those who modify the selfretracting sidestand and don`t believe what can happen ...

sorry to ear about your mishap du907, best wishes for your recovery...and hopefuly the bike is not too badly damaged :dunno:
if you ride bikes, its a matter of time when sometimes amongst all the excitement we all forget the f@#&ing stand down, i did it a few times with my previous bikes but never crashed :-P
soon after I got the 907 I wired a simple micro relay and a buzzer with this simple electric circuit, and it did save the day a few times, and we all know as we get older our brain is not as sharp as it used to be...the old saying...the older I get, the better I was, is very true
the good thing about this circuit is, you can have the motor running in neutral with the stand down, but as soon as you engage a gear while the stand is down the buzzer sounds.

ps: see wiring diagram  ...why do these pics came out so small sometimes??

Claude,you using photobucket?
if so you can resize the picture before you link it. Also use the preview function to check it before you submit
100x70

160x112

611x428

Keep in mind if the image is small to begin with you will have to sharpen the image or it will get fuzzy like that last one

In most cases you will be going the other way big to small which is usually pretty easy

thats much better

ps: forgot to mention, due to very low current draw, these micro relays can be very small (the size of your thumb nail) so you can put them anywhere, make sure the buzzer is loud enough

Ouch!

Wish you a fast recovery...

My sidestand flips up, when i uprighten the bike. Think that saved my several times.

In the last 100tkm with the 907, i had 3 "crashes".
First time i forgot the brakedisk-lock and crashed about 1 meter after start. Approx. 30 people i know as spectators. Threw the new lock away after... I just fell over, standing still.
Second time my shoe was stuck to the footpeg, when stopping at the traffic light. I just fell over, standing still....
Third time i wanted to turn on the road, the turning radius was too small (was using a small, handy Yamaha IT the weeks before). Then i had a cramp in my leg, when i wanted to put my foot down. ...now guess... YES... I just fell over, standing still.

Many Miles on the racetrack without crashing.
This 907 is built to run, not to stand still....

First time I had my wife out on the 906 I did the same thing, went to turn around too steep put the foot down then the bike and the wife :banghead:

Post subject:  Haven't been there and done that...

I have never crashed my 906 like that, a big crash. I have always thought that if my Ducati ended up like that I would rip off the number plate and leave it by the roadside. The extended sidestand of mine helps because I must raise it before I get on the bike or it feels as though it will tip over as I get on and if when upright I put all my weight on the seat the sidestand will touch down, so despite some cautionary comments I will stick with it.

Post subject:  Re: I wrecked my 907 this past weekend!

commiserations...scary stuff, too...

I had a 500/4 Honda that had a "proppy" side-stand.
it was positioned so if you tried a left-hand it would high-side the bike...

my experience was a fast left sweeper - then that "holy fuck" feeling when the bike is obviously scraping and won't go over into the corner - ended up on the wrong side of the road before I could stop and get upright enough to swing it up.

I can't think how many times I've left the stand down....but too many!!

Post subject:  Re: I wrecked my 907 this past weekend!

like I said on one of my previous posts, there was a case here where the guy died, just by forgetting his stand down, :,(
because we drive/ride on the L/H side of the road, when the stand hits the ground and bites, it throws you on the wrong side of the road and if your unlucky enough, a vehicle comming the other way will collect you, :(
best to leave the self retracting stand original, or if you modify it, have some sort of warning device, if it saves you once its well worth it

So sorry for your injury. I wish you a quick recovery. I see most of you have fallen with your Pasos, me not yet , should I worry????? :smoke:
Mine has a red warning light when the stand is down, but no buzzer...
