Hi everybody, after I made some optical improvements and some maintenance/adjustments to the spring elements last winter (you can see fotos and discription here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4991 ) I finally decided to improve the performance of the engine . Has anyone made any concrete experience with a big bore kit, cams, or similar? I could'nt find anything by Forum-Search... I would be very happy about your reports! Greetings from Germany, Rainer |

Did this: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2804&hilit=myecu . Worked well. Do feel free to ask any questions! |

Hello Rainer, check if your Duc dealer or another shop has a ST2 for sale and testride it. This`ll help you to get an idea what a 944cc kit and other cams will do. Even though not a performance enhancement my favorite is a lighter flywheel. Everyone I know who has one loves it. It makes the engine more responsive which makes the whole bike feel a little lighter. G. |

You do not need to buy a new flywheel, you can mill it down by several grammes. A lighter flywheel for sure is a good option. The question is: How much do you want to spend? There is the big bore option, carillo connecting rods, bigger valves... Or, if that is too much & too complicated, just swap the engine for a 3- or 4-Valve model :-) Another modification i would do when it rains money: Carbon fibre wheels by Dymag. I rode a 900ss belt drive with original wheels and dymag-wheels some years ago. It was a really big improvement for accelleration, braking & handling performance... |

it´ll also be good to get some adjustible cam belt pulleys and set the cam timing correctly to get the best from what you have. Regarding bigger valves. It really depends on what you want and how you ride. Bigger valves will shift the torque curve towards the top end. So if you ride on curvy roads rather than on the Autobahn you may be better off without that. The result of bigger valves is also more noise. G. |

Hardest issue could be, if you do more than cans & air filter, you will new a new map for your ECU. |

Hello, and thanks for your replies ! So, I know about those things like MyEcu or the adjustible cambelt-pulleys, both can led the engine run smoother, or in best case, increase two hp, if cam- timing is different between both cylinders. My idea was the result of a much stronger middle with a higher power-peak of about 90hp and 90NM, got by "traditionell" tuning with bigger bore (94mm or 96mm, does anyone know someone who offers a bigbore-kit?), higher compression piston, bigger valves, head-porting, plus eventually cams from ST2 or 900SSi.e. . So my first opinion is, that I will go Tamburinifan's way. Anyone got other results with other modifications? Pleas let me know ! Greetings, Rainer |

Rainer, good shops to try here in Germany are DSM or Kämna. They should have all you need and want. Currently on ebay: http://www.ebay.de/itm/MEGARAR-Big-Bore ... 3f1063c5b5 necessary modifications are mentioned on Kämna`s website http://www.ebay.com/itm/260898454446?it ... ae&vxp=mtr http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ducati-900ss-94 ... 4ab13542e1 (I wouldn`t buy any pistons not knowing the compression ratio) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ducati-Piston-K ... 53e5050e26 this seems like a good deal as alone the Carillo conrods cost a small fortune http://www.ebay.com/itm/900ss-Carrillo- ... 5196664a56 G. |

Hopping up an old engine has its limitations, but if you like to tinker its fun. As JoKing said, the faster way would be to just get a 916, or 996 motor and drop it in, like the ST4s. 115 hp The swingarm pivot becomes a problem though, and the ECU, etc. After some time you just built an ST, which is a lovely bike with better suspension. You can get a good ST4s for $5k, and an ST2 for as low as $3.5k. Of course the Paso is better looking though. IMHO, you are better off doing the adjustable cam pulleys, a good pipe, and have an expert adjust the ECU to fit your pipes, and call it good. It might be worthwhile to pull the heads and have some head work done at some time. In the end, its a 20 year old bike. it is what it is. Or, you could get a lightly crashed ST, and put on Airtech Paso fairings. |

May be not totally relevant but.. speaking to the local ducati mechanic/racer about his 900ss race bike ( scored a set of FCR's 2nd hand ), which he has systematically developed ( with the aid of a dyno ) and he reckons the 2 single biggest power gains were big bore exhaust headers and a dyna jet kit . As for dialling in cams , there are ofset keys available , which are a lot cheeper than adjustable pullieys. Mine required 4 & 8 degrees offset at the cam ( front and rear cyl's ) |
