After several weeks away from home I picked up a 906 with a bad Motor (Crank shaft broken).

I stripped the Bike

And here is the new engine and Swingarm

In concept, it will be a 906 frame with 907 plastics and Monster technic (S4R Fork, Swingarm, Engine, Wheels, brakes....)

Great project, hope you got room for that motor. Plenty of pics as it progresses please.

even though I like projects I think it`s a pitty to see another good looking Paso go.
I have doubts you`ll get that engine and swingarm in as on newer Ducs the engine is hanging in the frame while on the Paso it`s "in" the frame with the swingarm connected to both. The shock will probably be too short and the large fork tubes may hit the tank.
Will you keep the injection system or convert to carbs ?

G.

I will be not an easy project

The 906 looks good on the picture but all plastic parts has cracks, dents in the Tank, the motor was in peaces, crankshaft is broken. Electric, let say modified....

It will be a 906 frame + 907 plastic + all Technik from a Monster S4R - no carbs.

Does someone needs 906 technic parts, Tank, wheels, brakes?
No water cooler, I place him in my black 907.

Hi Bock900R,

I must say you found your self a nice challenging project.
But from what I saw, you can bring this to a happy end.
just curious about your about next project? maybe a 750 Paso Panigale?
well, would love to see your progress in pictures.

Hello Bock,

I planned to stay home and take a few weeks off to finish my lathe. that gives me the possibility to start produce Paso parts. I'm busy with that lathe for 3 years and want it in operation. then I start to work on one of the milling machines. the other machines as a tool grinder and shaper don't require much work. once the shop in operation I can do most of the jobs by myself.

Good luck!
A real challenging project.
As Mr. G. said, you will have to do many, many modifications to fit the ST4 engine (and the rest, of course) into the Paso frame.

If you'd have got a 851/888 engine it would be easier.
And, like Gerhard, I also would be more conservative restoring the bike.
However, let us see how the work goes on.

Ciao

Great project start. All the parts in hand and ready to play. I foresee many hours in the garage fitting parts and fiddling. Should be one of kind in the end. Kind of just blowing right past the idea of restoration and landing squarely in the neighborhood of Hot Rod / Custom. I see an entry to Bike Exif, or Pipeburn.

Hope your project goes faster than my stalled 750 Sport project.

Cheers, Phil

I have a 907 that I started to put 916 power into it. It became aparent that the tall 916 heads would hit the front wheel. I don't know much about the 851 or 888, but if they are the same as a 916 then the monster S4R with short heads should IMO be much better. On my project, I got a crashed ST4(engine) with short heads to shorten the 916 engine. All the electrics and guages are from a 916 so the mechanical tach is not required in my case.
good luck with your project.

I put showas on my 907 using SS yokes, they have 4mm longer offset moving wheel forward a few mm. Although the wheelbase is legthened slightly the trail is reduced so steering agility is not affected. I would guess the wheel is moved forward by about 2.5mm. You could also fit a lower profile tyre (120/60). I used one for a while it was ok. 10mm smaller diameter.
