Post subject: | A tailight mystery |
I have the Euro tailight assembly and it is my recollection that it worked when I installed it 6 months ago. But now I have no tailight. The rear brake lights work when I use the front lever but not the rear pedal. The rear turn signals are fine. I bought new bulbs thinking that the filament for the tailights were bad even though I could not see a break. The new bulbs did not help I still have no tailight. I assume the rear brake switch is not working correctly so I'll check that out and find a replacement. But I assume the tailight not working is a separate issue, any ideas before I start chasing wires? Thanks - Gene |

do you have 12V on the green-black wire at the rear brake switch when the ignition is on ? Also does your front parking light work when you put the ignition switch on LOCK position ? G. |

Rear brake switches go bad all the time on these bikes but that most likely has nothing to do with the tail light Check the connector at tail light and check the ground ... common problems have common issues. Once in a while the filament of the bulbs is the problem |

I don`t think it`s the the ground if the stoplights work if the front brake is used. The rear brake switch switches 12V. So if you measure 12V input but no output when you hit the rear brake you know it`s the switch. The taillight is connected to the front parking light bulb, therefore the question if it works or not. G. PS: just wondering, when was the last time you changed the rear brake`s fluid and bled the system ? |

I thought he had no tail light and no rear brake light but the brake light works from the front switch so the brake light switch is bad could be a ground on the tail light or power or a bulb issue |

those O.E.M. rear brake light switches are terrible aren't they? the internal spring corrodes, collapses and is usually the only reason for it not working. You go to remove it and the skimpy brass shell of a body distorts enough to stop you undoing it with ease even if you use a ring spanner.. |

Question do you have a copy of the electric system for the bike? It's two pages with legend printed in B/W in the workshop manual. If not, let me know, I can scan and email to you. Could help. Just leave me a message. |

I have no power going to the tailight side (yellow wire) but power going to the brake light side when I use the front lever. I hope to chase that wire this weekend it disappears under the tank. I have downloaded the Manual from this site previously. I'm not that concerned about rear brake pedal because I never use it. - Gene |

The yellow wire comes from the parking light bulb in the headlight. I guess you did check the fuses. G. |

You put yourself at greater risk not learning to use the rear break especially on a Paso Some day it will save your life ![]() |
