Good morning guys, I just bought a 93 907IE. I need to change the oil, I got a copy of the owners manual, and I see it says to clean the Filter screen. It is a 21mm bolt. I loosened it, I have not pulled it out yet, but I am wondering what is the best way to clean it? Also are there crush washers I need to replace for the oil drain bolt and the filter screen bolt? Thank you for all of your help. You all are a huge help!
Regards, Paul :)

Yes, unscrew it and pull it out. Check to see if there are any metal particles on it. There may be same small chips from the gear box but any aluminium shavings indicates the oil gallery plug in the crank backing out. I wash it with paraffin then refit it with a new crush washer. The crush washer on the drain plug should be replaced too.

a stupid question, do you have to remove the screw on the bottom to get the oil screen out ?
I had it done the past time so I can`t remember

On mine, it is a 21mm bolt on the side of crank case. I have not taken it all the way out yet. I am going to do it this weekend. There is a screw above this bolt for the screen, but I am not sure what purpose this serves. I am trying to find out where I can get the crush washers for the oil drain plug and the filter screen bolt here in the U.S. If anyone has a source for these, I would appreciate it. Have a great weekend!

Paul - be careful as you remove the bolt head and screen in case the solder holding it in place has perished/worn away as the screen will fall into the sump area and is a pig to fish out..........I know I spent two days fiddling with it as mine had already fallen away.

Thank you for the tip. Is the screen supposed to be attached to the bolt when you remove the bolt? If it is not, when you clean the screen, do you just put it on the end of the bolt and slide it back in? I am wondering what will keep it in place if it has become detached from the bolt.

It should all be one piece essentially a long bolt with a wire mesh screen surrounding it. Mine had been soldered on although you may most likely have one that has a plastic screen - look at the photo's attached below this is where they can also slip off.

Personally I would not take it off as this may break the tight seal holding it all together likewise be careful what you use to clean it as any solvent based product may loosen it's surface tension.

I don't have time to get my spare one photographed and loaded on here at the mo' but these two should give you and idea of what you'll have

Hey guys, I have a quick question. Is the Oil screen supposed to have a lot of resistance when sliding it out of the case? Mine was not easy to remove. It is clean and still attached to the bolt, but I expected it to slide out easier than it did. As always, thank you for all of your help. Enjoy the weekend!

yes, it is a tight fit, try to gently spin/move it a bit as you pull it out

I did not loosen the screw at the bottom on mine. I was just concerned because I heard on the forum of other members taking there screen out, and it separating from the bolt. I appreciate all of the help. The forum is a great source of info.
