im not getting any voltage back to the battery when my bike is running... I should see 13.5 volts when it running , im only ready 12.22 , and it keeps dropping..
So can some one post here How to trouble shoot the stator .. and How to trouble shoot a Voltage Regulator .. step by step with pictures on where to check fuses , and what fuses to check .. ??
Also if the stator Is bad , where do i get a new one , and what is the part number ?
Any Help would be Great , as i dont want to take it to the Ducati Dealer

Disconnect the 2 yellow wires from the regulator and connect a meter across them, set to the 200V AC range. With the engine running you should get a reading of approx 15V per 1000 rpm. Say between 40V and 50V at 3,000 rpm. If you are getting that then in all probability the stator is fine.
With the yellow wires connected to the regulator the battery voltage should rise to over 14V DC when the engine is running. If not, the regulator is suspect.

So I believe this is the wires for the stator ...?
Because on the other side is the clutch cover ..

i followed them up to the voltage regulator and found the plugs

when I ran the bike this plug got super hot and was melting the wires ..

So i threw the volt meter on the two yellow wires down next to the water hoses .. 1 st Picture and this is what i got ..

Idol reading

High Rev RPM

is this the Voltage Regulator ..?

Yes, and if you are lucky replace the terminals and ride on
If you find the regulator faulty replace it with one from Shendengen

do yourself a big favor and get either the FH or Sh series from here...forget electrosport, lux whatever

the Fh is just a little more expensive but will last forever and help keep your stator healthy.
The new SH series is the best regulator you can buy.

he also sells complete installation kits and terminals

How is the reg bad ? over voltage ?
Our paso's are know for electrical issues as they age , one thing worth mentioning is .......... some new reg/rect's ( and I think the shindingaringganggoo is one ) have a wire that is supposed to be connected to the switched side of the ignition switch , this is the reg/rect's voltage sensor wire , problem is that often by the time the volts have made it thru to the switch some may have been lost ( skinny wires and poor connectors ) and this can cause over charging because the reg/rect only sees the voltage at the switched side of the ignition switch , if it supposed to be 14.5 v and we loose say 2v the sensor only sees 12.5v and ups the charge rate to compensate . The upshot of this is that while the sensor is now seeing 14.5v the battery (reg/rect output goes straight to the battery ) is actually getting 16.5v , So either you need to ensure there is no voltage drop to the switched side of the ignition switch , or fit that sensor wire straight to the batt +. If your having battery issues like short life or it uses a lot of water this could be the problem. :)

The Shindengens have no sensing wire. Just 3 x AC in (you only need to use 2 of them) and +ve and -ve out, with the -ve going to ground and the +ve to the battery. The OEM regulator has a voltage sensing input, the brown wire supplied from the ignition relay.

Ok Derek :) Maybe a bit of brain fade on my part , my reg/rect is not the original ( grafted in of a Honda ) and I assumed that it was one of them , I still think it is but its been on my bike for over 10 years now so it aint the latest model :) :)

so i just wanted to give an Update for this thread so that in the future if some one else has the same problem they can see i fixed my bike..
I bought the voltage regulator off of ebay for $98.00 with free shipping .. all the wires were correct and it fit into the bracket just like the OEM part .. my regulator was the original stock unit from the day it was made !! amazing that it lasted all those years ..
with the bike running i now have voltage to the battery at 13.75 volts , i also bought a new battery for the bike and it starts right up , every time .. So all fixed and im enjoying riding my bike on sunny days once again
thanks to everyone here for the help and advice
