Post subject:  Rear spring/shock replacement
Went to MOT yesterday, and the very helpful lad said that my rear shock had no re-bound damping to speak of, which reminded me of a comment Geoff Baines made back in the summer of '96 (I'm loving this...!) when I got him to look over the bike post purchase. "Rear shock has no rebound"!

Why should it suddenly have acquired some in the proceeding 22 years... :lol:

Looking through posts on here, there is an Ohlins replacement, S45HR1C1LS, for around a grand with VAT.
I would be grateful if anyone has other suggestions.

Wilbers has quality shocks, w different features, cheaper.
Rudy, info@duc-only.nl , occasionally has original 750
Paso Öhlins which also fits 907.

the original Marzocchi is a goot shock and is worth reconditioning it. I did mine a couple of years ago (Oram in Italy, i keep my bike there), but i think any good suspension "guy" will be in position to overhaul it.

Thanks for the replies. I am one of those who prefers to keep stuff original if poss, so thanks for the encouragement I will get it looked at and keep the old shock.

I am loving reliving the fun I had on my old Duke, I get the feeling these bikes have there own special place in the Ducati family. My other bikes are proper vintage, as in 20's, which people always want to chat about when you pull up, but there is something about the unique styling of the Paso family, especially the 907 (ok Im biased), which I think stands it in good stead for the future.

I am also practical, so could not enjoy owning an Allegro with a square steering wheel just because its different, sorry, its crap. The 907 is a properly good bike with the added interest of looking like nothing else. Thats a recipe for fun!

Hi Tom,

I have a 1986 750 Paso with an Öhlins rear shock absorber and had the same problem. I've had it overhauled and serviced by an approved Öhlins service center in Belgium. Cost me around EUR 200,-
Absolutely worth the money and the effort.
The paint job of the spring was done by a local paint jobber. If you decide to go for an overhaul and this repaint then ask them to add a flex additive to the paint so it won't crack as the spring gets stressed. Good luck.

Thanks Ronald, I will definitely re-build my orginal shock. Great tip for flex additive to the paint. I had no idea such a thing existed. Will keep you posted.
