New to the forum. I have a 92 907ie, owned from new. Not long ago the front brake handle started going all the way tot he stop, so I'm assuming I need to rebuild the master cyl. No leakage.

Any suggestions on where I can get a rebuild kit?

Try bleeding the brakes 1st ,using new fluid making sure to flush out all the old fluid with the new , easy to see as the old fluid will be darker than the new stuff. If that dont sort it you can buy kits for brembo gear from a few different sites ,if you do wind up needing a kit you should probly replace the brake hoses as well, they dont last for ever

Thanks, good suggestion, I'll give that a try.

Any preferred sources for rebuild kits and hoses?

There are 907 hose kits on ebay now. On your master cyl there is a 2 digit number cast into it , this refers to the diameter of the cylinder, any brembo supplier can supply the kit , I use MG cycle , its a moto guzzi site but the brembo stuff is common to guzzi. There are heaps of suppliers in the US , do the google thing to find one close to you .

PS

I love NZ by the way, especially South Island, Fiordland, Otago Peninsula and Akaroa.

Don`t forget when bleeding the brakes to push the brake pads all the way back a few times to force the old fluid out of the caliper.
This way your not just changing the fluid in the hose.

Not sure I agree with that davo, you would have to clean all the road crud off the pistons before shoving them back thru the seals, and I have always relied on the flow of fluid to carry the old stuff out the bleed nipple . I can see the theory behind such a move but I have never heard of it before. It can become a big job because logic suggests that .......if you change the m/cyl you should change the fluid , so maybe should clean out the calipers and if you do that you will need new caliper seals ......may as well replace old hoses and pads too then , and you wind up reconditioning the whole system ....then theres the back brakes .....and the clutch.....which can be a proper bastard to bleed. Dont get me wrong , its all good stuff to do , something a lot of peeps overlook .
My car has abs and stability control, the plan was to change ALL the fluid but when I saw all the pipes and hoses ,mysterious looking slabs of steel bristling with said pipes and hoses and electric motor .......I took it to the dealer . :)

I agree with Davo. There is a considerable volume of fluid behind the pistons relative to the volume of the system. It not difficult to unmount the calipers, remove the pads and clean the pistons before pushing them back and it's good preventative maintenance to help prevent future problems with potentially seized pistons.

My inclination is to remove calipers, clean thoroughly, inspect and push pistons in.

I'll report my findings.

I ordered a rebuild kit.

Thanks.

Yeah ok , but if your going to that much trouble why not just take the pistons right out and clean the whole thing out completely

Yeah ok , but what about all the crap in behind the piston and the corrosion that builds up behind the seals? And the old dust seals will have to be removed before you can clean the piston , and chances are good that they wont come off in one bit and being 30 odd years old you should not refit them ....and there's your seal kit.
And as for common brembo parts not being readily obtainable....ah you can buy them any country where brembo equiped bikes are sold ,I have 2 sets of f08 seals and dust seals if anyone is so hard up for parts. There are 3 suppliers selling f08 seal kits and 2 selling brembo 30/34mm seal kits on ebay now. Seriously , if you guys are ok with waisting time fucking about doing a half arsed job one way or another go for it , I cant be arsed bickering over it
