Does anyone know the correct Ducati part no for the oil filter for the 907? The one on it has the number : 444.4.003.4A
and the new one I have to replace it has the number: 444.4.003.5A They have DucatiMotor printed on the filter
The old one is slightlly longer. I think either would work. Is it OK to run either of these?
Also where can I find a list of aftermarket oil filters for the bike, like by Wix, Mahle, High Flo, K&N etc...?
Thanks

The engine uses the same filter as the 2CV Citroen, you can look at various filter manufacturers under that . Have a look at the FAQ's ......lots of good stuff there.

Ducati have changed the part no. for the oil filter several times over the years although the the filter itself has remained physically much the same. The current part no. is 44440035A which is what you'll get if you order one from a dealer. They will all fit and work fine.
I use a Mahle OC5 on all my Ducatis.

Other equivalents are :
AC Delco FX0011 (was X4A)
Champion 101
Cooper Z64
Fiaam FT4654 or FT 4847
Fram PH2839, PH2864A
Halfords HOF216
Knecht OC 5 (equivalent to Ducati #065149960 and #090549960)
Mann & H W712/9, W712/11
Motorcraft EFL 47
NAPA: 1352 (1352NAPA and 551352 on the box)
Powertrain FL125
Purflux LS131
Purolator FC 103 or OC 5
Tecafilter Ref OC5
Technocar R12, R72, R434
TJ FB2094
Unipart GFE 201

blakduc1,

I have been using K&N-153 for years. Since my engine rebuild I've been using it. As with most K&Ns it has the wrench lug on it which makes it easy to put on and remove and K&N quality is proven. You can even get the 153 at Advance Auto or order pickup at Walmart.

Derek,

I know what you mean. About half the time the "nut" twists off and I have to drive a screw driver through the filter to get it off. But, I wind up doing that to just about any filter I put on. I guess I tighten them to tight. However, I can get the K&N filter at the local auto parts store about $15 USD or less because the manager gives me a deal. I believe a factory filter runs around $23 USD.

The current price in the UK for a factory filter is £12.54, about 16$ US, so not much different from the K&N price. The UK cost of a K&N is just over £14 although they can be got for about £1 less from some outlets. Still cheaper with the factory filter and much cheaper with a Mahle but the cost isn't really the issue, some folk prefer the convenience of the hex.

Been a while since I changed a Ducati oil filter , I used to struggle with various filter tools coz it aint an easy filter to get a grip on . I now have a cup type filter tool which fits onto the flats pressed into the end of the filter housing ......works a treat, even got one off that had failed the stab it with a screwdriver removal method.
Most peeps overtighten oil filters ......just a case of "what if it falls off and I can easy get another 1/4 turn " , the same peeps also over fill the oil ,and overtighten cam belts

Thanks to all that responded. That was very helpful. Derek, that is quite a list of substitute filters. I was surprised not to see K&N or Wix or Mobil 1 in the list. I have an R1200S BMW and have also lately been trying to get the substitute oil filter list for it. There may be certain flow and pressure ratings we should be concerned with as well. I think higher quality filters are always better for motorcycles. DU907, I do think the K&N should come off without tearing off the nut on the bottom. If it breaks, I would think it is too tight. There are torque specs for the filter, and with the K&N it would be easier to use a torgue wrench.

I have at least three of those filter cups (sockets) for different shaped filters, and none worked on the Ducati OEM filter.
