 Post subject: I'm Thinking of having my wheels powder coating freshened up

I'm thinking of have my wheels redone with fresh white powder coating over the winter. I know I will have to remove the bearings so I figure this would be a good time to replace them. Does anyone know which bearings to use along with the part numbers? I can get the part numbers from the microfiche but has someone used a different brand, SKF, FAG, or other? Tips & Tricks for removal? After powder coating I guess I will have to remove the coating from where the bearings go, or does that area get taped up or protected during the process.

I used SKF.
Paint shop often do masking.
Removal quite simple, small mallet and a mm socket or two.
Save bearings as inbetween for hammer when installing new.
Be thorough, the tube between bearings w minimum freeplay.

The front wheel bearings are:
2x
SKF 6303 2RSH C3 (17x47x14mm) id/od/width
Ducati #200218003 or 751633268

The rear wheel bearings are:
2x
SKF 62203-2RS1 (can be 'C3', don't have to) (17x40x16mm)
Ducati #400020004 or 751633265

The number of the bearing will be the same for every manufacturer. The rear part will differ. Bearings that have dust seals on both sides are called 2RS1 or 2RSH by SKF and 2RSR by FAG.

Before media blasting and powdercoating the rims the areas where the bearings sit should be masked. Those shops have some special resistant tape for that purpose.

I also keep old bearings but remove the inner race and balls either by cutting the inner race or the outer. If you use the complete old bearing to push in the new one the inner bearing races will touch. When using a mallet to drive the bearing in place you only want to hit the outer bearing race.
Put the bearings in the freezer overnight. Heat up the rim a bit using a hairdryer. Then the bearings will often slide in place with little effort.

Curious how you are planning to match the white. I guess there is a multitude of shades of white. I also guess with regular paint one could have any shade of white made up. Is this possible with powder coating. Any powder coating experts here?
