Hi Guys

A long shot I know.......am looking for an aluminium swingarm for a 750 Sport.

Would prefer undamaged, but cracked etc ok as long as it is repairable.

Thanks

Joe

Joe,
That is indeed a long shot. Not many made in the first place, and prone to cracking in several places, or getting destroyed by the sprocket bolts. I have seen one for sale in the past 5 years on e-bay, and he wanted $500 for it. As far as I know, there is no other model that shares the swingarm with the Sport, except for maybe the F-1 which is also rare.

I have 2 750 Sports, and both have swingarms from the SS series adapted.
the first one has stainless steel inserts into the stock cases that have needle bearings and seals inside that fit the smaller diameter pivot pin of the newer style SS swingarm. It has a 900ss swingarm (aluminum)
The other has a swingarm from a 750 SS (steel) that the front arms have been cut and rewelded to fit the Sport's cases, and the clamps were re-bored to fit the Sport's larger diameter pivot pin.
Both are some pretty in depth projects requiring good fab or machining skills. (luckily, I have friends who possess these skills)

So in short, the SS pivot pin is smaller diameter, while the SS cases are wider.
750SS swingarms are steel, plentiful, and cheap. If you know someone with a welder, its a good option.
900SS swingarms are aluminum, crack sometimes, and usually sell for about $150 - $200.
Both are roughly the same geometry as the Sport's, have the same wheel mounting, and shock mounting.

You'll have to get a hugger to fit the newer swingarm.

What happened to the old swingarm?

Cheers,

Hi ducinthebay

Thanks for the prompt reply and all the helpful info, I am building a bike based on a Verlicchi TT2 frame and steel swingarm that I recently bought. The trouble with the swingarm (round section chrome moly like that on the early 750F1's) is that it is not wide enough to take a 17 inch wheel, 4.5 inch width.

The donor bike I have is an ex Pantah race bike with a 750F1 engine in it. I did buy a 900SS Verlicchi swingarm but at the time didn't realise that there would be so much fabrication involved in getting it to fit. Not only is there the problem of the narrower cases and larger pivot pin on the 750F1 to deal with, but there are clearance issues too with the TT2 frame footpeg mounts.......silly me

Anyway, thats why I thought I would see if there were any used 750 Sport swingarms around, that would be the easiest fix. Failing that, I might go the route of making the 900SS swingarm fit.

Thanks

Joe

Nice replica, but unfortunately too many changed parts.... so, it "too far" from original :,( (that original i appreciate very high, if talking about such RARE bike, like TT was...)

But for a street legal ride, its lovely. A museum piece is nice, but a bike that you can ride regularly is, I think, better. Making historic sacrifices for rideability is a good trade of, if you are going to ride it.

You can come ride with us anytime, and I guarantee that when we stop, there will be dozen people around the bike.

Lovely. Happy new Year all.
Cheers,

In deference to historical value and some one else's opinion ,The best bike is always the one you make your own
regardless of its origin. If you enjoy riding it and showing it off nothing else is of any importance or practical value to anyone else but you.
Enjoy your ride

That is one sweet looking TT,original or not

I like old cars and bikes modified to newer technology a lot as long as they are well made and they do still look moretheless original or let`s better say like a classic.
It`s not a TT but I saw this bike on a meeting a couple of years ago (you don`t even need a fuel level gauge on that bike :) )

that project bike on top has a weird place to mount the battery. I`ve never seen that (or what is that ?). Also are those 16" rims from the DB1 ?
